Never ask a Turk why Turkey was 20% Christian in 1914, 2% Christian in 1927, and is 0.5% Christian today.
I just took the bullet train from Hangzhou to Beijing. The Chinese started building the line in 2008, same year as CA project, and finished the 800-mile stretch in 2011. Three years for a distance twice as long as LA to SF!

My friend told me that he's had a paper conditionally accepted and still not yet published for about a year now.
Academic publishing in fast-moving fields exists in an unacceptable state.

Knowledge transfer happening via old school journals is a counter signal for that field. Areas that are progressing quickly and unlocking value need the fastest memetic substrate they can get, which is usually X.

Tax attorney here.
1) there will be lawsuits about whether this tax can constitutionally be applied retroactively which the billionaires will be able to fund, so it makes sense to move before the proposition is passed so if that part is found unconstitutional, it doesn’t apply to you. 2) once a state comes after you, it’s rational to assume they will try to do so again, so moving makes sense both before and after the proposition is passed and if the proposition doesn’t pass and the proposition to ban future wealth taxes also doesn’t pass, it still makes sense to move.
This really isn’t complicated and doesn’t take a tax LLM to discern. But you know, I do have one and I’ve worked in state tax law for over a decade. I do advise people (but more often corporations) on state taxes and this is exactly what I would explain to a billionaire if they were my client.
I would also advise them that they would have a legitimate lawsuit about whether taxing unrealized gains is constitutional at all but that probably goes in favor of not moving if it impacts their decision to move at all.
Replying to @gabriel_zucman
Crucially, moving to another state doesn’t allow one to avoid the tax, since the tax would be owed by billionaires who lived in California at the beginning of 2026.
Not 2027 — but beginning of 2026.
There is no incentive to move to another state. One cannot avoid the tax by moving. This is one of the main reasons why it was structured as a one-time tax.
Today was one of the biggest days in cybersecurity reporting and incidents with PHP, node.js, Gitlab, and more
As such, we’ve open sourced an agent plugin that can be used to help patch these. These can also be used in Devin
We’re also giving significant credits to our Enterprise users so that they can focus on remediating these. Devin is uniquely effective here since it can validate that other parts of your applications are still working after the changes
Going forward stay safe, this problem won’t go away but you can put things in place to defend against it

Chris Dixon on a16z Frontier's investing philosophy, and why being too early is better than being too late:
"We believe that basically every good idea that we've ever seen that involved technology has eventually worked or we believe will work, if it hasn't worked yet."
"Almost everything that ended up working had a precursor that didn't work and maybe was 10 years too early. And that's the hardest thing in technology is to predict the timing of these things."
"There's the technology, there's the culture, there's the business environment, there's the political environment. There's so many factors that go into these things and having it all line up."
"Specifically in the Frontier Fund, we want to err on the side of being too early."

The Islamic terrorist regime of Turkey dreams of the revival of the Ottoman Empire, declaring jihad against Greece and the West. It threatens to invade the Greek islands and does not respect Greek sovereignty. If it continues with this attitude, the response will gladly be given on the battlefield. The Greeks are prepared to deliver justice for what Turkey has done over the last 100 years.

Mass Effect 4 deserved to be scrapped if people like this were writing it. Good riddance.
I now have permission to share something I hoped would be revealed with much more fanfare.
I spent more than 3 years as one of the writers of #MassEffect4
It was one of the greatest privileges & GLORIOUS challenges of my life. I smiled every day. I worked HARD for the fans, every day.
So when I say I am devastated by the end of #MassEffect I REALLY mean it. I don’t know how to express how gutted I truly am.
