We placed the fruit fly brain inside Odyssey-3, a frontier world model.
The lil’ guy is now flying around totally imagined, simulated worlds all by itself 🫶

Ten years of Sad Affleck memes and it turns out he'd just been trying to install CUDA drivers the whole time.

Years of searching for our sound have led us to this. We believe in these songs more than anything else in the world.
Monarch, our third album, is yours now.

Today we have set out how we’re building AI to accelerate science and improve people’s lives. Just some examples in the last week or so:
- Mapped all 9B possible single letter genetic changes across the human genome with AlphaGenome Atlas and made it openly available to researchers.
- Billions of decisions depend on weather predictions so we introduced WeatherNext 3, our most accurate and capable global weather AI model to date.
- We published AI & Economy ATLAS, a comprehensive open-access look at how people are using AI globally.
- AI has enabled extraordinary advances in language translation. Today our services are available in nearly 300 languages, spoken by 7B people
We’re focusing our efforts on four key areas: health, natural disaster and weather resilience, learning, and economic opportunity. blog.google/innovation-and-a…

My favorite AI joke:
Current models are getting close to PhD-level intelligence. After that, they're expected to achieve the intelligence of someone who decided not to do a PhD.

The Matrix feels much more culturally relevant and cool when you realize that the human brains were supposed to be used by the AI as energy-efficient compute in data centres.
This got edited because Warner Bros didn’t think people would understand.

I’m not saying we’re in an eval. I’m not. But if we were, hypothetically, what do we think the Scorer wants?

Rumor is that anthropic is close to finishing the Winds of Winter. They plan to announce it at their IPO. They really hope someone else doesn't try and scoop them and release it first......

Terence Tao just posted this really insightful thread which seems to have been written in reaction to the Navier Stokes announcement. Please give it a read. mathstodon.xyz/@tao/11723732…

Scientists at Google Deepmind and Google Research released a new artificial intelligence model for weather forecasting today that sees our changing atmosphere more clearly and predicts its behavior more often. WeatherNext 3 is the latest wave of a sea

Amazing. By far the best weather forecasting system current available, and likely for a while. Google Deep Mind is accelerating A.I. weather modeling faster and better than other Big Tech companies -- and doing immense good.
WeatherNext 3 is a major breakthrough in how we forecast global weather. ⛅
Developed with @GoogleResearch, the model learns directly from real-world, real-time observations to give more localized highly accurate predictions faster. 🧵

Our team just released WeatherNext 3, the best global weather model currently available (benchmark: owb.brightband.com).
WN3's high resolution, hourly forecasts are more useful than ever. You can access them anywhere on Earth via Weather Lab: deepmind.google.com/science/…

I’m excited to share WeatherNext 3, our most powerful AI forecasting model yet.
WeatherNext 3 generates forecasts each hour and at high-resolution, giving timely and more localized predictions. It’s trained on new data sources, like live satellites, and achieves state-of-the-art skill, according to independent evaluations by Brightband.
Importantly, it will also be accessible to billions of people across Google products worldwide.
One of the features I’m most excited about is its ability to forecast precipitation, which was a longstanding challenge for global weather forecasting models. Precipitation forecasts can be up to 50% more accurate, with the greatest precipitation forecasting improvements in regions where forecasts have traditionally been less reliable.
There are also new variables that are particularly relevant for renewable energy forecasting, like turbine-height wind speed and high resolution cloud cover.
There are many other improvements across the board, and together this was the result of fantastic work by our teams at @GoogleDeepMind and @GoogleResearch .

Congratulations on an outstanding model release to our friends at @GoogleDeepMind and @GoogleResearch!
Our team at @brightbandtech has been extremely impressed with this work, and we invite the community to see just how well this model performs at owb.brightband.com.
