Great news, everyone! This year's "State of CIDER" survey is out! (see docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…) Please, take the time to share there how you're using CIDER, so we can make it even better! I'd appreciate it if you shared the survey around, so we can get as much input as possible from our beloved community!

I've been saying the same thing for ages. I've been maintaining some reasonably prominent OSS projects for 15 years now. Good project leadership is all about vision, consistency, being around and nurturing a community. Sadly vibe-coding often works in the opposite direction.
Sustained open source is not about "can you create something crazy with an LLM" but how is the project maintained longer term. Who is the person behind the project, are they reasonable people, are they responding to issues in a timely fashion, making sane decisions. Stewardship.

Balkan Ruby 2027 is off, and that's a great thing! I'm expecting my third child and will focus on my growing family. You'll have a chance to miss us, and we'll be back in 2028 with new life for our 10-year anniversary. 🙌

Of course, without fluency in the language that your AI agents are using... good luck trying to assess their fluency. ;-) I get the point Hamilton is trying to make, but I still feel more comfortable using languages where I have deeper expertise, especially for "real work".
Your fluency in a programming language matters a lot less now. AI's matters more. Pick: - Mainstream lang (so there's enough training data + docs) - Good attributes (perf, tooling, types) Then focus on the product and architecture and let the agents run wild.

The evolution of programming in the past couple of decades: - 2000 - 2010 -> waiting for the compiler - 2010 - 2025 -> waiting for the tests - 2026 - ? -> waiting for my Claude Code account limits to reset

The skills you worked hard to develop as a programmer are just as valid today in the world of AI agents. Link below.
