1/ After @Moneybox covered 👇story on Saturday (with @BBCBreakfast, @BBCr4today + @bbc5live) we got a LOT of messages from fraud victims asking for help.
Sorry but there are too many to even begin replying to them all.
So if you need help: 🧵

One thing said to me as I paint over or clean off graffiti is that it *will be back again tomorrow*. But its just not the case I've done this for years and it rarely happens. These doors in Walsall were done in 2023 & remain clean. It's an excuse really to not bother tackling it.

I’ll tell you what I’ve told many customers before:
Creating a phishing pretext like this is likely to backfire and create multiple insider threat issues. Folks may sell their credentials just to spite you for your cruelty.
Of course criminals could use this pretext too, instead educate on it. Show an example of its likelihood rather than tricking people into thinking they’ll get a ring.

We must pay attention to this. The country needs impartial, high quality, respected, accessible news. Once lost it will be hard to rebuild, far better to act now to protect the jobs, expertise and institutional memory while we can.
How do you restore authority and distinctiveness to BBC News, as the corporation says it wants to do, while also imposing £50m+ of cuts? I was one of the panel on the Radio 4 Media Show, arguing that you can’t do both things.

Really glad the BBC is standing up for itself, in a way other US networks didn’t. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmy0…

This is utterly bonkers. How can one person (and presumably one producer) cover such an enormous brief. Education and social affairs are the things that affect millions of normal people. I am not a BBC basher, but how on earth does the corporation think this is public service?
NEW: BBC will no longer have a dedicated education editor as part of proposal that will see 100 jobs go across BBC News.
School leaders call the plan “deeply regrettable” and ask for a rethink.
Education/Social affairs editor jobs being combined.

This was inevitable. I’m not sure even Trump and Elon expected this level of blowback.
Ultimately, they have blood on their hands.
SpaceX Investor @GerberKawasaki tells me he’s not only “disgusted…from a humanity perspective” by restrictions on Starlink in Ukraine, but also: “…they've given everybody a reason not to use Starlink, that Starlink isn't reliable for national security for anybody but Trump.”

Our national broadcaster is being reduced at a time when we need trustworthy journalism and once again - yes, I’m saying it again - Lisa Nandy does NOTHING.
Why is she still Culture Secretary? No other Minister sits back and watches as their industries collapse.

The BBC has always been in times of flux. Even at the beginning in the 1920s, it had to work hard against sceptics about its role and value. So this latest wave of questioning is nothing new.
But the BBC has also been our greatest cultural asset promoting British values abroad. It was a beacon of truth in the dark days of the 1940s. It created what was one of the first significant news websites that could be trusted. It transformed the way we could see natural history on TV. With BBC Bitesize, Play School and Open University, it made television an education resource. It led with investigative journalism and provided a platform for world class cultural events and much more.
When I worked in rural India, I could hear waves of repeated mutterings as the word that "...the BBC is here" which meant something of value to all that heard it.
So when the BBC faces its latest challenges and the need to cut back on spending, it is disappointing that we hear from the leadership only the language of accountancy, with salami cuts of budgets. Together with that, what we need to hear is the language of leadership and what the BBC's value is to the nation.
From an organisation which is all about the telling of stories, it has not been great at telling its own story.
We need to hear, what the BBC can still provide. What it can do that no one else can. How on foreign shores, it still can promote the best of Britain. When society is fractious, it needs to explain the mission on its own coat of arms, that : 'Nation Shall Speak Unto Nation.' That's what we need to hear from the top at the BBC, now more than ever.

It is still just so extraordinary to me that the government basically loan sharked an entire generation of students.

Why are we allowing the BBC to be dismbered before our eyes? We don’t have to, we have the tools available to put the BBC on a sound footing now. The longer we wait, the more services, and the more jobs, are lost.

BBC News is a good example of big cuts still to come.
Today, it has told staff of 100 more job losses, saving £5.5m.
That's on top of previous cuts of £25m and £1.8m.
But it has to get to a total of £51m in cuts - so still plenty to come next year.
NEW: BBC confirms BBC Three, BBC Scotland, Radio 4 Extra channels to go, but there is an even more worrying development.
After all the cuts so far, the BBC is not even HALF WAY to its £500m savings target.
Some big calls to come...
