ALT Changes in sea ice and land ice in the polar regions from ICESat and ICESat-2. Main maps show sea ice thickness for the Arctic and Greenland region (sea ice thickness for January 202064) and the Antarctic region (average for April to November 2019)82 from ICESat-2. The height change rate for the land ice sheet is also shown, based on data from ICESat to ICESat-2 (ref. 49). Inset panels show details of processes made possible with high-resolution ICESat-2 data.

Fantastic talk by Leilani Raashida Henry and Ted Scambos at WCRP 2023 about the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration (ITGC). Leilani's father, George W. Gibbs, was the first African-American to set foot on Antarctica, and she is ITGC's EDI specialist!

Our door is open! 🛰️🚪👍
The ATLAS instrument on #ICESat2 was designed with a door to protect the instrument as it settles into orbit – this morning the operations team successfully issued the commands to open the door and start letting the light in!
