#OTD in 1965 Governor John Chafee signed the Rhode Island Fair Housing Practices Act. Recently digitized from our archive is this incredible footage (with sound) of that historic event which includes commentary from the famous civil rights activist Clifford Monteiro. #RIhistory
The RI COVID Archive team created an amazing one year retrospective of their work compacted nicely into this podcast episode. Definitely worth a listen! It's hard to believe it's been a year... The archive is still accepting submissions! ricovidarchive.org/

A search through our archives uncovered this footage of the 1973 groundbreaking of the current location of the Boys & Girls Club on the corner of Wickenden and Ives. Johnny Britto holds a special place in Rhode Island History, and we honor his remarkable impact.

Considered by many to be a father-figure for multiple generations of Providence youth, he served as the athletic director at the Fox Point Boys and Girls Club for over 60 years and had a particularly profound impact on the Cape Verdean community in Fox Point.

On Tuesday January 26, the neighborhood of Fox Point, the city of Providence, and the state of Rhode Island lost a beloved figure when John "Johnny" Britto passed away at the age of 87. This picture of him is from a 1979 Fox Point Community Diary titled "Fox Point and its People"

As so many reflect on Hank Aaron's legacy in the wake of his passing, we feel incredibly lucky to have this video where we get to hear the man describe it himself. Truly a treasure from our archives! Here he is speaking at a fundraiser for the Bannister House in RI

In 1965, as Dr. King and others marched in Selma, Providence demonstrated in solidarity in Kennedy Plaza. Movies like @ava's "Selma" (streaming free: vupulse.com/c/5354) and films from the RIHS's WJAR (@NBC10) collection connect us to our history. #blacklivesmatter
