How excited are Brewers fans right now? This is American Family Field in Milwaukee. The game is being played in Tampa.

Robin Yount walked out to throw the first pitch at the first Brewers World Series game in 44 years, and he was wearing another man's jacket. A plaid sport coat. One of Bob Uecker's actual ones, off the rack in his closet. Yount is the one who asked. When he found out he had the first pitch, he went to Brewers broadcaster Lane Grindle and asked whether it would be appropriate to wear a plaid jacket in honor of Ueck. Grindle told him he thought it would be incredible. Then Grindle went a step further and asked Uecker's family whether the crew could borrow the real coats. They said yes right away. So Yount walked to the mound in Bob Uecker's jacket. And then on the mound he took it off. Underneath was a Brewers jersey. Number 19. UECK across the back. The entire radio crew wore the coats too. Josh Maurer got the one Uecker wore in the Miller Lite commercial with Whitey Ford and John Goodman, which is also the coat he is wearing on the cover of Catcher in the Wry. The engineer, Kent Sommerfeld, wore the one from the commercial Uecker did with John Madden. Outside the ballpark, people were setting Miller Lite cans down at the foot of the Uecker statue. Ryan Braun got the crowd to shout for Ueck before the game. Now understand why it had to be Yount. He played 20 seasons and every single one of them was in Milwaukee. He was the starting shortstop on Opening Day of 1974, at 18 years old, and he did not stop until 1993. Bob Uecker had been in that radio booth since 1971. Which means Uecker called every game Robin Yount ever played. All 2,856 of them. And in 1982, the last time this franchise got here, Yount was the Most Valuable Player in the American League. He hit .414 in that World Series with a home run and six runs batted in. Milwaukee lost it in seven games. Yount finished with 3,142 hits, all of them in a Milwaukee uniform, and he won a second Most Valuable Player award in 1989 after a shoulder problem moved him to the outfield. Only two men before him had ever won it at two different positions. Uecker did not make it to this one. He passed in January of last year at 90 years old, after 54 seasons calling Brewers games, and the team got back to the World Series twenty-one months later. The broadcast booth has his name on it now, which is not the same as having him in it. Milwaukee beat Tampa Bay 3 to 2. A man who gave one city his entire playing career walked to the mound carrying the coat of the man who described all of it, took the coat off, and showed everybody whose name he had on his back.

Texas. Its independent ERCOT grid, major oil gas wind and solar output, large-scale agriculture, and extensive rural land provide stronger foundations for local energy food and space resilience amid national infrastructure strain or elevated crime.

Texas. No state income tax, strong job growth, wide-open spaces from Hill Country to Gulf Coast, and a culture that values independence. The mix of opportunity, climate variety, and straightforward living makes it the clear pick.

LEGENDARY: The 1988 NFC Divisional Playoff game between the #Bears and #Eagles became known as the iconic “Fog Bowl.” A massive wall of fog rolled into Soldier Field, making it nearly impossible for players, fans & even broadcasters to see the action. 😳

There’s so much German heritage here in Fredericksburg, it’s crazy. We even met a few people who still speak German, although they told us they are the last generation to do so. It was really cool to see how much effort people here put into preserving their German heritage. The history of the town and how it was founded by German settlers is also really fascinating. We visited a museum where we learned all about it. 🇩🇪🇺🇸

We’re in New Braunfels, TX, and there are deer everywhere. Literally on every street and in every second front yard. It’s crazy how they just wander around the city and don’t seem bothered by humans at all.

Jim Nantz says Mike Ditka used to pay and tip for everything with $100 bills, and never ask for change “I noticed early on that all he carried were $100 bills. All he did was peel off hundreds all the time. Buy a beer at the bar on the way out to dinner, ‘Yeah, give me a Budweiser.’ $100. Keep the change.” “Coat check, comes into a restaurant, comes out, $100. Man on the street, homeless, there was one guy that kind of understood the routine and he was there every week. Mike, every time, $100 bill.” “I finally got up the nerve to say, ‘Hey coach, why don’t you ever get change? Why just the hundreds?’ He says, ‘Hey, what’s the difference anyway?’” “He said, ‘You know, the way I look at it, when I die and they drop me down into the ground, I hope there’s a little opening in that coffin and my last $100 bill comes flying out and goes up into the sky and drifts away. That would make me happy.’” “So I said, ‘This gets a little pricey, doesn’t it?’ ‘It’s not that bad, Jim.’ He said, ‘Here’s the way I rationalize it in my head. We got 20 weeks. I come every single Friday to New York. I come in with 50 $100 bills, $5,000. And at the end of the season, I’m spending $100,000.’” “He would say, ‘I’ve allocated $100,000 to the football season to go enjoy myself in New York. And that’s the way it is.’ I take $5,000 in cash in hundreds every single week. And that’s what he did.”
