While Pakistan frequently comments on India’s internal affairs, a new UNICEF report raises serious questions about child safety within Pakistan.
UNICEF estimates that 1.19 million internet-using children aged 12–17 experienced at least one measured form of technology-facilitated sexual exploitation or abuse in a single year.
Shockingly, 71.4% of incidents were not disclosed to anyone, while 50% involved someone already known to the child.
From online grooming, sexual solicitation and blackmail to the non-consensual sharing of intimate images and AI-generated sexual imagery, the report exposes a disturbing crisis.
Why are so many children remaining silent? Are Pakistan’s laws and enforcement keeping pace with online abuse?
