GOP is at risk of significant state legislative losses, @washingtonpost analysis finds
washingtonpost.com/politics/…
Republicans have dominated at the state legislative level since 2010. But Democrats hope that this year can turn the tides.
Democrats could realistically break six Republican trifectas and win seven of their own, per @washingtonpost analysis.

Democrats could gain full control in MN, PA, and NV. They're also optimistic about AK, MI, AZ, and WI, where all three branches are up for grab.
Republicans are only likely to gain a trifecta in Kansas.
In interviews, MANY in NH mixed up John Sununu with other members of his family, particularly popular former Gov. Chris Sununu. John Sununu's yard signs, displayed across the state, also only say "Sununu / Senator" without his first name.
New Hampshire is a famously independent state. But voters say they are much more inclined to vote based on party affiliation this year, and could do so enough to carry Chris Pappas to victory over John Sununu, a strong candidate.

NEW: Seattle’s mayor ran as a democratic socialist. Then she ran into reality.
Katie Wilson has been hobbled by a $175 million deficit, staff upheaval and a steep learning curve on public safety, the city's most intractable issue.
While New York under Mamdani makes for an easy comparison, it’s San Francisco that has become the envy of Seattle officials. A top adviser went there last month to study Daniel Lurie's tactics on crime.

We polled two must-watch House races. There are good signs for Democrats. Story with @SchneiderG based on new Washington Post-Schar School polling. washingtonpost.com/politics/…
Equality PAC, the political arm of the Congressional Equality Caucus (which includes 192/215 House Dems) tells me it will “absolutely not” support Marcy Kaptur’s campaign.
Kaptur, a 6-time sponsor of the Equality Act, recent ran an ad criticizing “transgender ideology.”
Democrats in red states have moved right on trans issues this cycle in response to a deluge ($76 million) of Republican ads.
The shift has sparked backlash in the party, risking a rupture with LGBTQ+ allies urging voters to stay home or oppose Democrats.

As some Democrats running in conservative areas toughen their language on transgender issues, including referring to transgender women as men, it has created tension with LGBTQ activists and liberal voters, @benbinday reports: washingtonpost.com/politics/…
NEW: In a statement, Troy Jackson apologized for a comment yesterday where he said that it’s “unfortunate” that Jewish Mainers don’t call the war in Gaza a “genocide.”
“I misspoke and made a generalization about Jewish Mainers’ views,” Jackson said.

NEW: For years, a group of Penn State frat brothers used the pledge system, hometown connections and the code of silence baked into Greek life to build out a drug ring that moved as much as $124,000 in cocaine.
Then someone snitched.

The race for the Senate has continued to move toward Democrats, with @CookPolitical calling it a “true coin flip.”
The races to watch + how the map is now looking in @washingtonpost:

This is pretty shocking if true (or anywhere close to true) — Janoo is dramatically outspent + hasn’t been taken too seriously by strategists.
Race is Safe R according to Cook, Sabato, DDHQ, RCP, etc
UNH poll | 9/17-9/21 LV
Vermont Governor 2026

The retiring Republican congressman that Flippo is trying to replace, Mark Amodei, has yet to endorse Flippo and told me just now he will “absolutely not” back him.
“The guy is a fraud. … I’m not having my last action walking out the door to hug a guy who I think is a fraud.”
Exclusive to @washingtonpost: David Flippo, a Republican congressional candidate in Nevada, inflated his military record multiple times in recent years by claiming he received a Bronze Star “for valor” during his two-decade Air Force career.
