But an 18 year old can take on $250,000 in student debt for a degree that leads to a $40,000 salary.
No credit check. No income verification. No reality check.
We let kids who can’t rent a car make six figure financial commitments that can follow them for decades.
Then we ask why so many young adults struggle to get ahead.
The bank protects its money.
The dealership protects its money.
The university gets paid.
And the student gets the debt.

NEW: Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood absolutely obliterates a man who left his son in a scorching hot car while he got drinks at a bar.
Scott Allen Gardner, 33, has been charged with aggravated mansla*ghter of his son Sebastian.
According to police, Gardner left his son in the car for three hours in the middle of the day while he got a haircut and went to the bar.
There is no indication that he checked on the child during the three hours he was away.
One of the most disturbing allegations is that Gardner went back to the bar, Hanky Panky's, the same day after the child passed away.
"Father of the Year, baby's de*d, investigation is going on. What does he do? He picks up his mother, and they go back to Hanky Panky’s for a few more cocktails, and they're there until almost midnight," Chitwood said.
"I don't think there's a penalty on this earth that could ever fit for the crime that was committed here. It absolutely shocks the conscience."
