Like it or not: Germany’s energy system is fully operational, with more than 50% renewables. And we are shutting down – not building – coal & nuclear plants. Coal will be off the grid by 2038 at the latest. PS: We also don’t eat cats and dogs. #Debate2024

The view of a retired professor (me), directed especially to young scholars, especially grad students: your responsibility (bold of me to suggest, I know). A thread.

Reminder to hikers and Houston baseball players that trash cans should only be used for their intended purpose.
A wooden baseball bat clangs against a trailhead trash can, disrupting nature and fair play all at once. A big red X hovers in the right-hand corner, announcing its disproval. The red X wants peace. The red X wants quiet. The red X wants justice.

A trashcan at a trailhead sits happily full of the items that belong in it - such as dog poop bags, granola bar wrappers, and logos of opposing baseball teams. A big green checkmark beams down from the corner. The trash can lets out a belch. It is hungry for more dog poop bags. Feed it.

At this point, I have to ask if conferences are finally going to start changing their names according? A pac-12 with 10 teams, a big-10 with 16 teams, a big-12 with 10-14 teams depending on the day….? It just doesn’t make sense
