When Andy Burnham was born, there were 15,644 betting shops.
When he first became an MP there were 8,756 betting shops.
There are now 5,669 betting shops and he wants to tackle their "proliferation".
There's no excuse for this kind of ignorance.
"There's a real concern about high streets that have been hollowed out, particularly in former industrial areas."
Andy Burnham wants to make it harder for new vape shops and betting shops to open in England, as he seeks to revive the high street

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The number of betting shops in the UK has been declining since 2015, down from 8,995 to 5,932 in 2024.

I still can't work out why it is apparently essential that Andy Burnham, and ONLY Andy Burnham, *must* be Prime Minister of the United Kingdom without any member of the public having a say in the matter.

Water and energy are already state controlled. They are just not state actioned. Every aspect of both is controlled by Government, including spending and billing.
This idea that nationalisation will reduce bills is fantasy.

Your Council Tax bill goes up by the maximum 4.99% every single year
Meanwhile, your local library is closed, the potholes are craters, & your bins are collected half as often
You are paying a premium for services that were quietly discontinued five years ago
It is no longer a tax for local services; it is a bailout for bankrupt local authorities

Remeber this, Labour had 402 MP's, and not one of them was good enough to replace Starmer.
They had to have a by-election by a Labour MP resigning, to get someone in to replace him.
Thats the quality of the MP's running the country.

I think this hashtag needs to be trending tonight, don’t you?
#GeneralElectionNow
Under @Conservatives when they changed leader @UKLabour wanted a GE. I bet they don’t ask for it now. IMO people voted for a party so let them crack on but I still feel the state of our MPs in general as a country is poor.
It’s the world cup in a few days but doesn’t feel that way. Where are the dads with flags in the back windows of their Qashqais? Pubs with England bunting outside? Why is t It’s coming home, vindaloo or world in motion being played on the radio? What’s gone wrong?

They are buying your votes.
This isn’t about giving struggling families help.
This is about ‘making mornings easier for all families’.
Do we really want the state doing everything for us? What about personal responsibility? How infantilising.
Question. With all the money manufacturers have invested in electric vehicles surely they could have invented a zero emission fuel quicker & kept a combustion engine similar to how we converted leaded to unleaded petrol?

Someone posted this on Facebook...so true!
Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.
Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts
Anyway!
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
It's time to apply
The inheritance tax.

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world... We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middle class,a huge manufacturing base, and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.
What in the happened? Could it be the lying parasitic politicians wasting our money?
Oh, and don't forget the relatively new bank charges....
And we all know what we think of Bankers.
I hope this goes around the UK at least 1,000,000,000 times!!!
YOU can help it get there!

Maggie has spent decades fighting for the little girls no one else cared about. I know I wouldn’t be the woman I am today if it weren’t for her love, support, and mentorship.
Thank you. I love you.
Now, let’s take the bastards to court.
@MaggieOliverUK
MPs wage will increase to £98,599 Pa plus their pensions plus expenses. 650 UK MPs that’s a bill of £64,089,350 a year plus pensions plus expenses. Regardless of where you place that X on the voting slip I don’t think as tax payers we get value for money here. #mppayrise

“Labour would freeze your council tax”
“Not a penny more on your council tax”
“No ifs, no buts”
With all the elections now going ahead, make sure to share this huge Labour lie before the local elections.
You can’t believe anything Keir Starmer says.
⚠️ Never vote Labour ⚠️
One thing that I think we can all agree on regardless of your political viewpoint is that the state or current politics and the current MPs we see in parties is appalling
Is there any chance of coaching Jakub to actually come off his goal line for crosses. #lcfc
