Jason, the post office had a net income *gain* last quarter so how could it be a subsidized grift? You see, the USPS 'big losses' since 2008 were generated by a fake GOP attempt to destroy the USPS. A 2006 law required pre-funding the next 50yrs of theoretical pension liabilities. Required to pre-fund pension obligations for people not even born yet but who, statistically, would eventually join the USPS. *Zero* private or public US organizations have ever had this kind of pension fund... because its very dumb. But then it let people claim for decades "USPS is bankrupt" despite operating cashflow that was like not great, but not bankrupt, and a few % of total revenue. So ignoring financial engineering. The point is, USPS costs american taxpayers maybe a net income loss of ~$1B/yr (or it actually made money last quarter) That's really pretty cheap for guaranteed postal service to every single home even the most remote and rural in the entire country of ~300M people ($3/person/yr)!
