Checked in on Voxtype's PR list and found @paolino is going for the MVP award with a ton of bugfixes.... working on getting those sorted, Carmine, thanks for the help!

We worked with @paolino to upgrade Tern's system to RubyLLM 2.0 while it was in its rc mode, and the gains are highly worthwhile! Now that it's generally available, there aren't many good reasons to stay on a 1.x series version.
Some people are still on RubyLLM 1.x. Time to upgrade! Here's everything you're missing: paolino.me/rubyllm-2-0/ paolino.me/rubyllm-2-1/

RubyLLM 2.1 is out now and it's missing nothing from LangChain/LangGraph/LangSmith. - Up to 58x faster and 58x less memory - Built-in MCP support with MCP Apps up to the latest spec - Support for Jev and other Decision Models - a new Evaluation framework - OpenTelemetry tracing You can have it all. The capabilities of the big Python frameworks, in a beautiful language like Ruby, integrated seamlessly into your Rails applications. rubyllm.com

voxtype 1.1.0 is out. Whisper on Intel NPUs through a new OpenVINO engine: hold the hotkey, transcribe on the NPU, and your CPU stays asleep. On a Core Ultra laptop this is a major battery optimization! Thanks to @jacobm1nk and @spencergbull for pushing this forward. Also in 1.1.0: text replacements finally apply on every output path, the Quickshell OSD follows your Omarchy theme live and takes swappable style packages, and there's a baseline binary for CPUs without AVX2, perfect for all of those Omarchy Potato machines! github.com/peteonrails/voxty…

It's been awesome watching @spencerskovy get our RubyLLM 2.0 upgrade over the line. Huge thanks to @paolino for leaning in and working through it with us.
Our AI stack runs on RubyLLM, and we'd built up several workarounds the past few months. We just upgraded to 2.0. A few of our use cases were promoted into first-class APIs, including our multi-phase migration pattern that was upstreamed! tern.travel/blog/workarounds…

Spencer wrote up the whole story. Approval workflows, prompt caching, error handling, and tool-loop control all went from workarounds to first-class APIs. Plus how we moved 2.5M+ messages to the new schema in four phases. tern.travel/blog/workarounds…

Heading out to Rails World with Pete! 🛤️ We're a majestic monolith on Rails 8, Hotwire + Hotwire Native, and Phlex, and we lean hard on AI to ship faster than anyone in travel. If that sounds like your kind of team, come find us.
I’m headed to RailsWorld. Want to meet up and talk about Rails, AI, Omarchy, or Voxtype? Want to meet up and talk about who I am hiring at Tern Travel (and maybe whether that’s you)? DM if so!

The business owners who struggle the most are the ones with companies that can only function when they’re in the room. That’s why we run on EOS at Headway, and the most valuable thing it gave us was the discipline to build systems that run the company without the leadership team becoming the bottleneck. But beyond systems, who you hire is arguably more important. With the wrong people in your team, your systems don’t really matter all that much. If people want to flee from responsibility, they’ll find a way to make it happen. Instead, I’d argue we should be building teams that embrace ownership. It’s hard to screen for someone like that in an interview environment, but once something goes wrong, and something always does, you’ll know whether or not you’ve made the right decision. Which dramatically helps the leadership team to the point where they’re no longer the bottleneck.

Every company I talk to right now is racing to figure out how to use AI. Yet many of them are building on top of a data model that was never designed to support it. In my opinion, the infrastructure question is the one that doesn't get enough attention in these conversations. Adding an AI layer on top of a messy, inconsistent data architecture doesn't produce a solid AI-powered product or system within your company. AI multiplies your circumstances. For better or for worse. And if the underlying data model isn’t documented well, siloed, or inconsistent, the output reflects that. The teams that capture the real advantage from AI are the ones that did the infrastructure work upfront, while everyone else was focused on the surface-level adoption race. Implementing a slightly better LLM, trying the latest agent, that sort of thing. I've been in enough product conversations in the last year to know where most companies actually are. And most of us need to sort out our infrastructure first, before scaling with AI. Easier said than done, but entirely worth it.

Most product team job descriptions I’m seeing will look outdated within a few years. The assumption behind most of them is that depth in one lane is the most valuable thing a person can bring: design, engineering, product, pick one and stay there. The teams I'm watching build something interesting are organized differently. They're hiring people who can move across disciplines without losing judgment in any of them, who understand the business problem well enough to evaluate whether the technology is actually solving it, and who can direct AI doing the specialist work rather than compete with it. I've been calling this profile the "specialized generalist" because I haven't found a better name for it yet. Maybe “M-shaped generalists” is another good term? I’m unsure. But hiring these types of people will have outsized returns in the near future.

Talented students at Michigan Tech weren’t getting noticed. Comp-sci undergrad @GarrettLord helped change that, co-founding a company that makes it easier for employers to connect with the best—no matter what Zip code they come from. #ForbesUnder30 ⤵️ forbes.com/sites/kristinstol…

I am pretty sure that most companies, often under the pressure of investors, don’t bet on current team members over new hires at nearly a high enough rate.
