We're at a critical moment as an industry. Proud that @blocks has joined many others in calling for a collective response, the defenders' window is open, and it's on all of us to use it. openai.com/collective-cyberd…

We're experimenting a lot with Berd and there's a lot of good stuff we'll bring to Buzz

Today we're open sourcing Berd, a beautiful desktop app for working with AI agents. And one that isn't afraid to have a personality.
We had capable models and harnesses everywhere, but no environment around them that we actually loved opening every day. So a small team built one for ourselves, and it's scaled to something a huge portion of Block now uses. Especially the non-engineers who want to build things.
The part I'm proudest of is how it was built. Design and engineering as one team. Designers in the code and engineers in the design decisions. Everyone owning what they're working on; everyone moving together like it was choreographed...and really fast.
In a world where anyone can build anything now, what makes something worth opening every day is the care inside it. Berd is for people who want to step outside the norm a little. Who want their solo workspace to feel fun, and who want AI to feel less scary and confusing.
Model-agnostic, harness-agnostic, and built for you to shape your own AI world. From us, to you.
Replying to @blocks
From Square to Cash App, we have a history of bringing thoughtful design to technical categories. With Berd, we brought that same instinct to AI agents. Meet the Gloopies, designed to make agents more recognizable and approachable.

How do you migrate 2000+ apps without losing your mind? 🐝
You build an AI Swarm.
Our latest deep dive: 🐝 Efficient Tokens & Effective Teams - engineering.block.xyz/blog/e…
We benchmarked real Buzz agents and found what works best:
🐝 HIVES VS. SWARMS: Keep Hives to learn your habits. Build temporary Swarms to learn a project.
🐝 STOP BEING MIDDLEWARE: 1 SmartBee + 10 WorkerBees = A team that handles its own escalations.
🐝 EFFECTIVE TEAMS: Swarms finished 33% more work than solo frontier models.
🐝 SAVE $$$ / CREDITS: Not every task needs your smartest agent. 🐝 Save your frontier tokens for the hard stuff.
Stop babysitting AI. Build the right team!

Today, @Blocks sent a letter to Senate leadership with one ask:
Move the Clarity Act to the floor for a vote.
This bill would provide long-awaited regulatory clarity, while enshrining critical developer protections (BRCA) and the right to self-custody into law.
The time is now.
i’ve been buzzing a lot lately
it’s unlocked 2 big changes in my agentic building workflow:
1/ it automates having agents of different kinds review & improve each others’ work
2/ it turns vibecoding into a social experience
this is how i want to build everything now.
we're launching BUZZ!
a new groupchat platform for teams of people and agents of all sizes, built to reduce our dependency on slack and github. model-agnostic, decentralized, self-sovereign, and open source. 🐝

Buzzing!
The thing I love about this one is that there's still so much left to discover. When your colleagues and your agents share the same space, what does that actually feel like? What gets easier? What gets weirder? What are the ergonomics of working this way, and which ones haven't been invented yet?
Buzz is us experimenting with all of that in the open. Come poke holes in it with us.
