🍻 A Vintage double feature at @bitsandpretzels 🥨
Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of joining an incredible gathering of Europe’s venture and technology community in Munich.
Leyla Holterud, Partner and Head of our London office, joined Michael Wax, GP at @blueyard, a long-time portfolio fund of Vintage, for a fireside unpacking a real fund selection decision, from the first meeting and what mattered in diligence to how the relationship has developed since. Leyla also hosted a roundtable on VC secondaries.
Ilan Leiferman, Partner and Chief Value Officer, joined Patrick Dreisch (@AnthropicAI) and Nathan Gruber (Manex AI) at the CIO Summit for “Building Europe’s Industrial AI Champions,” moderated by Ines Ivoković (COBE). Exploring how Europe can build global Industrial AI leaders, a topic closely connected to Ilan’s work leading Value+, connecting enterprises with startups addressing their business challenges.
Two conversations reflecting the connected perspective we bring across venture managers, founders and enterprises.

We'd love to connect. We'll be hosting a Jeffersonian debate dinner on a counterfactual future, going for an icy group run and will be hanging out at our lounge all day(s) to meet founders driving us towards utopia and holding the line against oblivion.

We handed 100 people a newspaper from 2036 and locked them on a mountain for two days.
This is The Counterfactual.
The premise is simple and uncomfortable: most of what you believe about the next decade is wrong. You just don't know which parts.
So we wrote the newspaper of September 16, 2036. Some headlines you'd expect. Others look impossible. In that world, they happened anyway.
Then we made founders, investors, and policymakers argue about it while
Hiking.
Basecamp: The Consensus. The most dangerous beliefs everyone in the room shares. Camp Alpha: The Divergence. How the impossible actually unfolds.
Camp Beta: The Wager. What you'd start doing today if it's real.
Summit: The Great Re-Pricing. The dislocations you can actually trade.
Between camps: rotating small groups, no hiding, every assumption pressure-tested on the trail.
Final morning: the counterfactual became output. Policies. Tactics. Capital allocation. Now feeding competing simulations of the future.
Consensus is already priced. Every asymmetric return in markets, in policy, in company building lives in the future nobody is pricing in.
Comfortable beliefs are expensive. We spent two days getting rid of a few.
See you at The Counterfactual 2027.

Our founders sat down with the @WSJ for an exclusive look at our Series C fundraising round and the three low-cost, mass-producible weapons systems we’re building.
Missile-making startup Castelion closed a more than $1 billion funding round co-led by private-equity giant Carlyle Group, reflecting blue-chip firms’ growing interest in a booming corner of the defense industry on.wsj.com/4qrM6aR

Deterrence depends on unapologetic American strength: weapon systems adversaries fear, produced in quantities they can't imagine, at a price taxpayers can afford.
Grateful to our Series C investors who are trusting us with the significant capital required to manufacture deterrence at scale and our customers for trusting us with their mission.
Thank you for believing in us, we won’t let you down.
Castelion is proud to announce our $1 billion Series C. We’re growing fast and our mission hasn't changed: build the weapons required to deter the next major war, affordably, rapidly, and at massive scale.
This funding accelerates Blackbeard production, develops a longer-range strike system, and starts work on defensive systems.
Thank you to @JPMorgan Chase's Strategic Investment Group, @a16z, @OneCarlyle, @lightspeedvp, @LavrockVC, @AltimeterCap, @TRowePrice, @generalcatalyst, and #Interlagos for backing that work. castelion.com/news/series-c/

You arrive at an
alpine lake.
Waiting in your room is a
newspaper dated September
16, 2035.
You begin reading.
Some headlines are exactly as
expected.
Others seem impossible.
Yet somehow they happened.
The assumptions everyone
shared in 2026 turned out to
be wrong.
If only someone had taken
those possibilities seriously.
Welcome to

Excited to back the Blockspace team!
Ethereum’s core product is blockspace, and the infrastructure that delivers it should be as robust, open, and economically aligned with Ethereum as the protocol itself. This team has the depth and long term commitment to help make that happen.

America has the best military in the world. But we can't build weapons fast enough or cheap enough to deter the threats we're facing. That gap is dangerous.
Grateful to @mariogabriele and @thegeneralistco for this chat on what @Castelion is doing to solve this.
"I want to leave a safe world for my kids. This is what I got."
Bryon Hargis (@hargsb) is the founder and CEO of @Castelion, a defense startup building hypersonic missiles the way SpaceX builds rockets: fast, iteratively, and cheap enough to produce in quantity.
His conviction is that America does not have a weapons problem. It has a manufacturing and learning rate problem. And that gap is more dangerous than any single technology demonstration.
