While I do not have personal experience with mental illness, I've experienced it 2nd hand through the suicides of family and friends.
One was leading music in church up until they killed themselves. Every memory of him is laugher and jokes. I never knew.

Christians: If your church or others are telling you that you can name/claim depression away, just declare the victory, prepare for breakthrough, think happier thoughts, "soak" in the right amount of worship music, or whatever to overcome depression -- Ignore their advice. 2/
