🚨ALERT: Maryland's @MdAgDept
has introduced a $150/year per port registration fee for commercial EV chargers. This is impacting Level-2 stations in multi-unit dwellings, leading to concerns from HOAs and potentially slowing new installations or even removals of existing ones to avoid compliance issues. This could affect Maryland's EV adoption and sustainability efforts.

🚨 13 days since those tags were documented — still not repaired.
🪄 E1190/E1191 now shows as available in the app. On site, the tag appears ripped off; the metal security wire remains tight on the CHAdeMO plug. No sign this unit was inspected or returned to service by an RSA or W&M.
⚠️ None of the six units display W&M registration compliance stickers.
E1196 remains the unit previously observed in service. App status and on-site condition do not match.

🚨 First known case: Maryland Dept. of Agriculture Weights & Measures has condemned an AC Level 2 commercial EV charger ☠️ at MD 118 & I-270 in Germantown.
⛓️ Chained and tagged — 🚫 fully prohibited from use until a Registered Service Agent (RSA) inspects it 👮♂️
W&M ignored extensive feedback from the EV industry and public warning against premature NIST Handbook 44 enforcement.
👉🏻This has nothing to do with accuracy. It instantly made a working site unreliable by shutting it down with zero reasonable time to correct the pricing (time-based vs. $/kWh).
Now the operator faces a $500 RSA fee 💰W&M never clearly disclosed. Economically, it may never get fixed — turning a good charger into a stranded asset.
This is the domino effect we predicted.

Q: What is required if my charger fails inspection?
A: You will receive an emailed copy of the inspection report listing the violations. As the device owner it is your responsibility to correct any noted deficiencies within the specified time to gain compliance with Maryland law. Please contact the office with any questions.

MDA just received emergency approval to impose a devastating 👉🏻$75 annual registration fee on every EVSE.
Registration is only the distraction.
The real financial destruction begins when W&M starts enforcing RSA requirements — and, separately, their burdensome accuracy standards. Two distinct mandates. Two separate hammers.
Together, they will crush the economics of every existing and future pay-per-use Level 2 site — and threaten DCFC viability.
RIP L2 🪦
Level 2 is the only practical, affordable charging option for apartments, workplaces, and destinations. These unnecessary fees and overreaching mandates will wipe it out exactly when we need it most.
Call to Action:
If you see any Level-2 or DCFC charging site close due to MDA’s actions, post it publicly on social media and give MDA & Weights & Measures the credit they deserve. Let’s document the damage these policies are causing.
