i am begging y’all to stop thinking of activism as going out and arguing with the worst of the worst and start actually thinking about what impacted communities need to heal: love, support, mutual aid, resources etc.

Every Texas Republican I've heard say it's not the time to politicize guns this week will be speaking at a political convention about guns this week in Houston.

There will be more Uvaldes, El Pasos, Sutherland Springs, and Santa Fes until we decide to put the lives of our kids ahead of the political careers of gun lobby politicians like Greg Abbott.
abbott’s “could’ve been worse” comment is so beyond messed up bc like …. this is the “worse”? four years ago 10 people died, now 21.. does it have to be 40? 80? when do we finally reach “the worst”? how many lives lost constitutes taking action?

Going downtown to protest the NRA & GOP in #Houston tomorrow? Please be prepared and take care of yourself. Allow me to offer tips based on my decades of experience as a lawyer (tho this is NOT legal advice), activist, and person who hates hot weather. A thread:

The moment that Greg Abbott said the Uvalde shooting “could have been worse” should be the end of his political career.
The thing about having "guns" as your hobby, is that if my hobby had turned into the number one reason of death for children, I would just find another hobby.
i was bullied, but im not responsible for my school’s shooting.
for the 5674672nd time, stop making excuses for these monsters. stop giving them the publicity they crave. don’t speak their names. don’t tell their stories.
direct your anger to lawmakers & your love to uvalde.

i do think we’re in a special kind of hell when you say something like “kids should be safe in country” or “kids should be able to go to school and come back home alive” and it turns into a debate
if it’s “horrific” & “incomprehensible” you should fucking do something about it already, greg.
