From POGOs to scam hubs
EYES WIDE OPEN - @eyesgonzales
The Philippines may have banned offshore gaming, but it doesn’t mean that the people behind it, especially the Chinese, are no longer around.
Perhaps this is one negative result of the ban—an iteration, or rebirth, that was a lot worse.
Aside from scams, another concern that has emerged in the wake of the POGO ban is the so-called Philippine Inland Gaming Operators (PIGOs), which offer online gaming targeting players in the Philippines.
It’s ironic, said property consultant David Leechiu, that while the Philippines banned POGOs—which target overseas players—it allows PIGOs, which have, unfortunately, hooked Filipinos on online gambling. tinyurl.com/u88bex9t

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin warned that the weakening peso could drive up the cost of imported coal, diesel and liquefied natural gas. @PhilippineStar
This could put further upward pressure on domestic energy prices, particularly electricity rates, amid the ongoing global oil crisis and the looming El Niño threat.

“This is not the best time to be secretary,” Garin said today on the sidelines of the Singapore International Energy Week.
The local currency breached the 64-per-dollar mark for the first time in intraday trading today, extending its string of record lows. @PhilippineStar

ANOTHER DIESEL PRICE HIKE LOOMS
Motorists should brace for another increase in diesel prices next week, with pump prices expected to rise by P2 to P2.50 per liter.
Gasoline prices, meanwhile, are projected to drop further by P1 to P1.50 per liter. @PhilippineStar
The estimates remain preliminary, as they do not yet account for week-on-week freight cost movements. With one trading day left, the projected adjustments may still change. @PhilippineStar
