I always like to anticipate what my clients will need. We're giving out chargers at the IPEM conference to the guests who come on the podcast, rather than hand out a charger in the middle of a conference that has no charge. Tonight's activity is pre-charging the chargers. It's the little things that matter. It takes effort: unboxing, charging, reboxing. I think it'll make a difference because would you rather grab a charger that you need with no juice, with your brand on it, or one that's ready to go? Because Juniper Square has got you, I choose the latter every time. (And the other side of the charger says Juniper Square - clearly not a photo I planned for X)

Relationships are not a soft skill in private markets. They are table stakes. Across 140 conversations with private markets leaders, this IS the most consistent theme yet it baffles me how some fail to play the long game.
Hint: It's how you treat people when nobody is looking
With hindsight everything makes sense.
Looking back on my last 10 years at Juniper Square and it all fits together neatly.
But the truth is, in addition to fund and rewarding, it’s been hard, messy, emotional and more. Here is what I’ve learned: open.substack.com/pub/brando…
The opportunity is rarely in what everyone can see. It’s in what takes real operational skill to execute.
The best private markets businesses don’t just raise capital. They build trust that compounds over decades.
That’s the part most people miss: the best private markets firms aren’t just allocators or operators.
