he can't handle the ending he is like me 😭
261107 | cheng lei update his weibo with the happy ending version of the lament of autumn where everyone is “alive” with yu changxuan, ye pingjun and their two kids. 🍁💌
“𝙞’𝙢 𝙜𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙘𝙠 𝙞𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙙, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙞’𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠.” — yu changxuan
through the thin gauze curtains, whispers mingled. as the curtains lifted, the sound of a small hammer lightly cracking walnuts could be heard. following the sound downstairs, I expected my mother to greet me first.
“oh, our young master is finally up!”
it was qixuan, grinning—her words flowed like a kite out of control, requiring my sisters and sisters-in-law to gently quell her chatter. only my mother could keep her in check. if shes a boy, she would be as “annoying” as boren.
i sat on the sun-drenched sofa. this morning, i had only felt thirsty, chug two glasses of water, and hadn't eaten anything.
“drnk slowly,” my fourth sister said.
“brother gu!” qixuan called out.
“can you stop startling us? the people upstairs aren’t awake yet,” i said.
“wu ge, there's no need to rush to headquarters. the commander-in-chief hasn't arrived yet,” ruitong said.
“where’s dad?” i asked.
“you have the nerve to say that? he’s still asleep. he’s usually such an early riser. if you and your older brother hadn’t persuaded your father to drink yesterday, would he still be sleeping?” mother said. then let’s just go out later.
“ruitong, it’s going to rain tonight. remember to bring an umbrella if you go out with changxuan,” fourth sister said.
“don’t worry,” ruitong nodded.
“brother li!” qixuan called again.
“yu qixuan!” i glared at her.
“wu shao, if you ask me, let’s not go today. it looks like the commander-in-chief won’t sober up anytime soon. let’s go to the xiangxi hotel for a couple of rounds, then go horseback riding for a while, and then I’ll book…” boren didn’t finish.
“you guys have fun, i’m going back to sleep a bit more,” i said.
“this, this, this…”
“don’t say ‘this,’ let’s go,” ruitong pulled him.
“it’s been so long since we played together. i just want to relax…”
i went upstairs, my knees and ankles struggling, my feet grinding the ground. i put the wooden toy gun and storybook on the bedside table. i lay on my right side, gazing absently into the distance. i used to say this bed was big, but now it seemed just right. pingjun, with one arm around each of the two children, slept soundly. i watched for a while, but couldn't fall asleep. perfect, I'll make some breakfast before they wake up. as i reached to lift the covers, i found xiao yuer clutching my sleeve. i gently kissed him and got up.
“can't sleep?” mother asked.
“make breakfast.”
“you're making those chicken soup dumplings again?”
“yes, I'll make them more often, trying to get them as good as lao zhengxing.”
“go on, go on, my son's cooking is getting better and better. they'll be gaining weight for winter this year!” mother laughed.
“i wonder when we'll be able to enjoy that kind of food,” fourth sister teased.
their laughter made the jade hairpin flowers by the window sway slightly.
“wu ge, the kitchen is over there. where are you going? are you still asleep?” qixuan asked.
“i’m going to check if the maple leaves have turned red, then I'll be right back.”
