My toddler has started to talk out of nowhere with a slight British lilt and now I’m learning that my husband did the same thing as a kid… genetics is destiny
Need to have another baby before the spergy temptation to get a 100 gallon tank inhabited by multiple fancy goldfish strikes
This is actually a critical invention if you’ve ever had a goldfish, those fuckers love flipping upside down
Mine:
Slow roasted salmon
Skirt steak
Hamburg steak
Chicken wings
Taco night
Pantry meal (tinned fish pasta or bean stew)
Rice or bread as carb, sometimes I’ll make a soup or small salad
I’ll swap in chili, curry stew, and bolognese now that it’s getting colder
Whenever people talk about how wonderful and practical The Joy of Cooking is, how it taught them the basics, I’m like ???
I always found Sontag’s Against Interpretation unsatisfying because it posits a binary between the pure realm of sensual perception vs the analytical realm of interpretation. When feelings and perceptions ARE interpretation — a work of art can “feel” cold because of its formal properties.
The generalization of Renaissance art as “humanistic, realistic, rational” really misses how strikingly surreal, stylized and modern Northern Renaissance art is. Van Eyck often looks more like a fashion editorial than “Renaissance humanism”
I listened to Call Her Daddy once back when it was still the two chicks and it was literally just maenads moaning incoherently… I would never have guessed it would become an object of Democratic Capture
Rereading a book from childhood. Unlike Montgomery’s Anne series, which I loved to death, Emily unsettled me. In her world, ordinary people are never kind, always petty and cruel; the only real love is the Freudian sticky kind of crazed single parents living in the past. Emily’s writing has a vindictive quality unlike Anne’s imagination— a form of revenge against those who have wronged her. Not as pleasant, but probably a more honest account of the artistic spirit…
