I think the appeal with TNG was that it was like a simulation of a world where, if you made compelling arguments, people were swayed and it changed the course of the episode.
The characters are all competent and fair-minded, and their universe is one that rewards this.

I literally wept in bed last night watching Star Trek and thinking about how many times Captain Picard taught me about morality, ethics, service, community, compassion, and diplomacy. He literally formed core parts of my adult wisdom. He was one of my televisual philosophers. I am not who I am without him.

しかし、スタートレック・ピカードでは、シンスの体に意識を移す事で疾患を克服して居た。
パトリック・スチュワート氏が亡くなる前にアルツハイマーとレビー小体型認知症を患って居たというのは少し数奇な運命を感じる。
残念ながら神経変性疾患である二疾患の根治療法はまだない。
スチュワート氏の最期の意志として、アルツハイマー病の研究への寄付を行い、更なる寄付を呼びかけ、最後までピカード艦長のような立派な意思を貫かれたことに心から敬意を表します。
でもきっと24世紀までには、神経変性疾患の根治法が見つかっているのではないかと思う。

Gene Roddenberry initially DIDN’T WANT Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard!
In an interview, Stewart recalled how Star Trek producer Robert Justman discovered him performing Shakespeare during a UCLA lecture.
Justman turned to his wife and declared, “We found the captain.”
But when Stewart met Gene Roddenberry the following morning, the meeting lasted just 10 minutes. After Stewart left, Roddenberry reportedly asked, “Who the hell’s idea was it to invite him?”
Justman and Rick Berman eventually convinced Roddenberry to cast Stewart, although Stewart admitted the creator never seemed entirely comfortable with the decision.
When Stewart later asked Roddenberry how he should approach Picard, his only advice was to reread the Horatio Hornblower novels.
It’s incredible that one of the greatest casting decisions in television history almost never happened.
Stewart didn’t just become Captain Picard. He helped redefine what a Star Trek captain could be.

ドイツ人もアメリカ人も中国人も日本人も、スタートレックがどう人生を変えたか、パトリック・スチュワートがロールモデルとして生き方にどう影響を与えたか、いままで心の中に抱えていた思いが解放されて、皆の心が一つになっているように感じる。
Xでここまで多くのアカウントがスタートレックのことを語り合った２日間があっただろうか。
死してなお、世界中の心を動かす名優パトリック・スチュワート、そして私の心の中ではジャン＝リュック・ピカード艦長。
こんな素晴らしい人がいてくれた事に、感謝しなくちゃいけない。
