CAPHRA announces the Asia-Pacific Declaration call for Safer Nicotine Access. This formal call is to health ministers and public health officials across the WHO South-East Asia and Western Pacific regions to legalise safer nicotine alternatives for adults who smoke. While it will be formally presented at the AFN conference, the declaration is also accepting online signatures, which will be verified. The declaration may be signed here: afn.asia/declaration

Quitting smoking is important for health, but telling someone to “just quit” doesn't address nicotine dependence, withdrawal, stress or the reasons smoking became part of their routine. And when someone doesn't quit, the conversation shouldn't end. For adults who continue to smoke, moving away from combustible tobacco may offer another route to reducing harm. Hey look! It's me talking! :)
The WHO has stopped pretending to care about evidence. Its solution? Higher taxes, more bans, and policies that hand billions to organised crime. We spoke to @vapers_alliance about the WHO's ideological agenda, Australia's tobacco black market catastrophe, and why prohibition kills while harm reduction saves lives. 🎥 youtu.be/3rQ3eW0yK28?si=f5Wo…

Good article on last week’s Asia Forum on Nicotine in Manila. I shared New Zealand’s experience — our rapid drop in smoking 🚬 after regulating vaping; Japan’s experience was also shared — similar rapid drop in smoking due to regulation of heated tobacco products. Good discussions. Lots of different challenges across our Asia, Pacific and African regions.

As the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office considers its proposed tobacco-control action plan, one question matters: will restrictions reduce harm, or close off lower-risk alternatives for adults who smoke? Nicotine e-cigarettes can help adults quit smoking, while the role of nicotine pouches in quit attempts warrants further research. Policymakers must also address underage uptake, product safety and the risk of driving demand into illicit markets. Our latest article examines why tobacco-control policies must be judged by their real-world outcomes, not simply by the products they restrict. Read the article: asiaharmreductionalliance.ne…

This 👇🏾 would apply to the @WHO @FCTCofficial and a large majority of Tobacco Control academics researching how to convince governments to pass and strengthen prohibitionary laws to stop people using non-tobacco non-combustible nicotine products, and how to further stigmatise and criminalise people who smoke tobacco.
If your opinion about a scientific subject cannot be changed by evidence, it's not a scientific opinion.
