STATEMENT Rep. Leila M. de Lima Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Partylist House of Representatives On Recent Remarks by Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV 6 August 2025 I have always believed that principled disagreements can strengthen movements—if they are rooted in truth and guided by respect. But when public accusations are based on conjecture, and when they target allies instead of adversaries, the damage falls not only on individual reputations but on the greater cause we all claim to serve. Former Senator Antonio "Sonny" Trillanes IV has recently made public remarks against former Vice President/now Mayor Leni Robredo—suggesting, among other things, that she would have blocked any ICC arrest of Rodrigo Duterte had she won the presidency. I cannot speak on behalf of VP/Mayor Leni, but I find that claim difficult to believe. Her public record speaks to the contrary. Para sa kanya, accountability must apply to all. I have respect for former Senator Trillanes, who I consider a friend and a co-warrior against Duterte's excesses and evils. As a friend and ally, I can attest to VP/Mayor Leni's unwavering commitment to justice and human rights. No one who stood with us during the darkest days of impunity and persecution can honestly accuse her of being soft on accountability, least of all on Duterte. We do not know what has prompted these claims. But we do know their effect: division, distraction, and disinformation. Let us not hand ammunition to those who wish to see the democratic opposition fragmented and discredited. Let us not mistake our allies for our enemies. Let us never forget who truly brought harm to our institutions, our communities, and our fellow Filipinos. We in the opposition are not here to fight each other. We are here to fight for the people—for justice, truth, and dignity. That is our shared mission. Let us not lose sight of it. TAMA NA ANG PAGBIBINTANG. TULOY ANG LABAN. PARA SA BAYAN.

[MEDIA RELEASE] @LeoDiCaprio Urges Philippines' @bongbongmarcos: Protect Masungi! BARAS, RIZAL, PHILIPPINES – Academy Award-winning actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio has joined the growing calls for the protection of the Masungi Geopark Project, a critical conservation area in the Philippines. In an Instagram post on 4 July 2024, DiCaprio urged Philippine President to take immediate action. DiCaprio's post implores President Marcos Jr. to "intervene and continue to protect Masungi." He warned, "This success is in jeopardy, as the @DENROfficial threatens to cancel the agreement that protects this area from prolific land grabbing activities." @pcogovph The Masungi Geopark Project, located in Rizal province, is an award-winning conservation initiative that aims to restore a significant area of the Upper Marikina Watershed. However, its future is threatened due to a recent announcement by the DENR Secretary Ma. Antonia “Toni” Yulo-Loyzaga that she plans to cancel the 2017 Memorandum of Agreement between the Masungi Georeserve Foundation and the DENR. "This cancellation would set back the success of an internationally acclaimed conservation effort and leave the area vulnerable again to mining, logging, and illegal developments," DiCaprio added. DiCaprio's support adds to a growing list of international figures rallying behind the project, including, Dr. @JaneGoodallInst, DBE, renowned ethologist and activist, @GretaThunberg, world-renowned environmental activist, and @OfficialSting, musician and environmentalist. These global voices are amplifying local concerns. Earlier in June, over 10,000 Filipinos signed a petition urging President Marcos to protect the project. Leonardo DiCaprio, a six-time Academy Award® nominee and winner, is known not only for his work in film but also for his roles as a producer and activist. He has long been a dedicated advocate for global environmental issues, including climate change, wildlife conservation, access to clean water, biodiversity protection, marine conservation and supporting Indigenous communities. Through his philanthropic efforts, DiCaprio has contributed over $100 million in grants to various environmental programs and projects. He is also a founding board member of Re:wild, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring biodiversity. In recognition of his environmental work, the United Nations designated DiCaprio as a UN Messenger of Peace in 2014 "for his longstanding commitment to environmental activism." On April 20, 2024, the Masungi Georeserve Foundation asked Secretary Yulo-Loyzaga to visit the project site and come into constructive dialogue, following pieces of misinformation released by the department. The Secretary has yet to respond to the challenge. Concerned citizens are encouraged to support the cause by signing the petition to safeguard the Masungi Geopark Project: bit.ly/protectmasungi. Citizens may also express support for the MGP by messaging directly to the DENR Secretary Yulo-Loyzaga: [email protected] and President Bong Bong Marcos Jr.: [email protected] and cc: [email protected] # # # Contact: [email protected] Link to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Instagram Post: instagram.com/p/C8-YHzvyvVO/…
