I do think politics is a huge part of it but also the zeitgeist in general? It used to feel like the heroes lived in our world. but since they did the time jump, it's like they're afraid to be more specific which leads to a disconnect, like they live in an AU
I don't think people should say John is fully innocent but I also just don't think people should see him as fully bad either. I do think you're valid for not liking him anymore because of the racists.
Listen, I do get that they made his bestfriend and wife black to show us that he's not racist but the writers also made sure to let us know he actually cared about them and they're not just for optics. That said, his blindness to his priviledge is still a huge part of his story
Ok that part I will agree and I hate that lots of people are using John to be racist. For me tho, I'm just saying that specific event was understandable. I will say, he still did a lot of wrong in the show so I'm not gonna defend that. He's still an ass but that's part of the fun
