No words.
The @MoEFCCโs empowered committee has recommended dumping 650 million litres per day of treated industrial wastewater from Suratโs chemical and textile hub into the #GulfOfKhambhatโa highly sensitive, biodiverse #estuarine ecosystem home to #mangroves, mudskippers & and migratory shorebirds. The irony of the #environment ministry sanctioning deep-sea dumping that threatens marine life and local fisherfolk livelihoods.

Calvin is spot on.
It needs "People like us" to sustain accountability & transperancy. To ask the bank why they put money on the big dam. To ask the govt why the spending on highways shoots up faster than on schools.
To point out why investing in waste to energy is such a waste (of time and money). To ask why the bank's spreadsheet looks great, but the poor are going further in debt.

My solidarity with my friends mentioned here. And my special gratitude to @cfa_ind to unequivocally stand in solidarity with its staff. Such institutional support & solidarity with colleagues has become very rare.
We stand with our colleague Arjun who was detained and brutally beaten by Delhi police for participating in a peaceful protest questioning the anti-people SIR. We stand with our colleague Anjali who has been detained multiple times along with other protestors over the last few weeks. We stand with our colleague Shayeri who has been at the receiving end of lathi charge and detention all summer from the first round of Jantar Mantar protests. We stand with all individuals especial women and queer people who have been sexually assaulted, manhandled and who experienced state violence. We stand with each and every voice which has been brave enough to hold power to account. That is and will always be the essence of democracy.
What the people on the streets have been seeking for the last few months is accountability. First from the Education Minister and today from the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commission. People are on the streets to protect their most basic right as a citizen, their right to vote.
The brutality and crackdown that have been unleased on students, youth, civil society activists, opposition leaders, journalists and ordinary citizens is unacceptable.
People are peacefully protesting on the streets demanding their rights and accountability. Barricades and laathis will not be able to muffle them.

Increasing influence, diminishing accountability: The World Bank in India
As the World Bankโs influence in India expands, are the mechanisms to hold it accountable keeping pace?
In their article, Asmi Sharma and Joe Athialy examine how the World Bankโs expanding modes of intervention have shifted the spaces and mechanisms through which its actions can be scrutinised and challenged, further eroding accountability to the detriment of affected communities.
The article appears in a special issue by the Bretton Woods Project, launched ahead of the 2026 World Bank Annual Meetings in Thailand.

We are getting bad energy from this next incinerator (literally!): Essex County Resource Recovery Facility (Reworld Essex) โ USA. Despite releasing 854,000 MT of CO2 in a year, it receives โclean energyโ subsidies from taxpayers. Over half of New York City's municipal waste ends up burned here, in a community already overburdened by industrial pollution.

CFA organised a session at the International Peopleโs Assembly in Bangkok!๐
Titled Towards a World Downside Up: Unknotting the Iniquitous Rules of the World Bank, the session brought together Jayati Ghosh, Ishmael Zulu, Joe Athialy and Anirban Bhattacharya to critically examine the World Bankโs role in perpetuating inequality and the consequences of market fundamentalism.
The discussion explored publicly funded, redistributive alternatives to the existing economic order, imagining a world rooted in economic justice, shared prosperity and peopleโs needs over corporate profits.
