CFIB's Chief Economist cuts through one of the most persistent myths in tax policy: that lower small business tax rates discourage growth. The evidence suggests otherwise. Small business tax relief helps entrepreneurs invest, hire and expand. 👇👀
Small businesses are not an endless source of revenue. Calgary's decision to nearly double water rates by 2030 is another blow to entrepreneurs already facing rising property taxes and operating costs. Enough is enough.

Thank you @KyleCampbellYYC, MLA for Calgary-Shaw, for meeting with CFIB to discuss priorities and challenges facing small businesses ahead of the fall session.
It is great to see a new federal red tape reduction strategy which includes several long-standing CFIB recommendations.
The new requirement for regulators to reduce regulatory burden costs by $2 for every $1 added is a significant step forward.

This Federal budget, CFIB is asking the government to reduce the all-time-high costs of doing business in Canada as a small firm with these four recommendations.
Strengthening these businesses, including CFIB members, will secure Canada’s economy in the face of uncertainty.

Notably absent from today's budget presentation was any discussion of the impact on non-residential taxpayers. Calgary businesses paid 46% of the property tax share in 2025. As budget deliberations continue, @cityofcalgary should be transparent about what proposed increases mean for local employers and small businesses.
Wing night is becoming another casualty of rising costs. 🍗 Small businesses are paying more for food, labour, utilities, taxes, and red tape, making it harder to keep customer favourites affordable. When costs go up, prices eventually follow. No one misses those 10-cent wings more than the restaurant owners who used to serve them. cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/c…
📉 Alberta small business confidence fell 2.5 points to 52.3 in September, as tariff uncertainty and rising costs continue to weigh on businesses.
Tax & regulatory costs and insurance costs were the top pressures, followed by wage costs and fuel costs.
The province's decision to suspend the fuel tax is a welcome step that will help ease cost pressures for many entrepreneurs. cfib-fcei.ca/en/media/tariff…
“Hundreds of thousands of small businesses and millions of workers in the broader economy are affected when labour disputes happen. Recent strikes and lockouts have cost small business billions. The recent Canada Post strikes alone cost small business owners around $100 million per day in lost productivity and delays.”

Thank you, Premier Smith, for listening to Alberta's small business community!
Fuel costs remain the second-largest cost constraint facing small businesses, according to CFIB's Business Barometer. Suspending the fuel tax will provide welcome relief at the pump.
Since July, 661 Alberta small business owners signed CFIB's petition after being left out of the Alberta Energy Rebate. Today's announcement shows those concerns were heard. #ABPoli #SmallBusiness
Global uncertainty continues to push energy prices higher, and that’s putting more pressure on Albertans’ wallets.
Today I announced that relief is on the way. Starting Oct. 1, Alberta will suspend the full provincial fuel tax, saving Albertans 13 cents per litre on gasoline and diesel every time they fill up until the end of the year. This is practical relief that helps families, workers and businesses keep more money in their pockets.
Albertans already pay the lowest overall taxes in Canada, and this cut adds to our unmatched tax advantage.
