Pope Leo XIV warns that artificial intelligence must never replace human judgment when decisions affect human life, freedom, and dignity.
Addressing participants in “The Future of AI: A Dialogue Between the Vatican and the Scientific World on the Developments and Applications of Intelligent Technologies,” jointly organized by the Pontifical Academy for Life and the Future of Life Institute, the Pope outlined five principles for AI development: its future is not predetermined; machines are tools, not people; certain decisions must never be delegated; AI must serve the common good; and institutions must ensure ethical oversight.
“Decisions affecting human life, freedom and the use of force must always remain subject to effective, informed, and responsible human oversight,” he stressed.
The key question, he added, is not simply what AI can do, but what purpose it should serve.

The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.

Legal Draftsman's Department is the unsung hero in the reform drive since 2022. Yet, according to news, 62 of the 154 posts in the Legal Draftsman’s Department lie vacant, including 24 of its 47 senior posts. Bills completed fell by 42% last year. When the quality of our recent laws is so often questioned, and so many reforms await drafting, this is a bottleneck the country cannot afford. The government must fill the posts, pay drafters fairly respectably, and keep the experienced ones.

It is increasingly clear that the government lacks the technical competency to draft a bill that fits international human rights standards. I'm not amazed by their failures, because this party doesn't understand human values.
