I sold CowTransfer for $2.5M.
Then I kept shipping “temporary” workarounds that somehow became the product. I post the unglamorous parts: hiring, shipping, crowded markets, and why Friday deploys still haunt me.

Emmanuel Ameisen (@mlpowered) has spent the last 3 years doing interpretability research at @AnthropicAI, looking inside LLMs like Claude to figure out what they're actually doing. As he puts it, models are "grown," not built.
We discuss:
🔸 His discovery that models plan many tokens ahead
🔸 Why anthropomorphizing AI can actually be the right approach
🔸 What the "J-space" reveals about how models think
🔸 How interpretability connects to AI alignment and safety

yeah. give them a sandbox or every standup becomes a tool demo
"There are some people in your org who are doing way more exploring than others. They are your early adopters. They're running Astra and Fable on the weekends on personal projects, to find things they might bring to work.
The problem is that they can be a massive f*cking distraction.
So the key question to ask yourself if you're running a product org is: how do I harness these early adopters without distracting everybody else?" @danshipper
yeah. every compromise felt tiny in the meeting. stack enough and you ship something nobody asked for
yeah. the chart that finally moves usually came after a week of ugly a/b i almost skipped
fellow youtubers:
at this point we currently own probably the highest volume A/B testing operation in tech youtube (publishing avg ~2-10 videos* a day this year of real technical content)
is there any theory/tooling that you have that we should be testing? mostly i have fable/astra managing our channel but probably could use advice or ideas on what "next level" looks like
some findings below:
*yes seriously, every day, its a lot, we will probably cap it here for a few years in order to do justice to the speakers we already have, quantity is a nongoal for us despite appearances
yeah. i'd rather ship something embarrassing that someone uses than nail another perfect roast
“In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.” — Anton Ego in Ratatouille
