Studying how the brain develops

Joined July 2016
I am thrilled to share that this winter I will be starting my lab in the @GIGA_ULiege! The lab will study early brain development at the intersection of systems and computational neuroscience. 🌐You can find out more on the lab website: chinilab.com 1/2

We implemented iSTTC to tackle challenges in our own sparse, developmental datasets, and it’s working beautifully. We hope it helps others working with tricky spiking data. Try it yourself github.com/iinnpp/isttc!

Our first project on intrinsic neural timescales (ITs) is out! 🥳 We developed a new method to estimate ITs from SUA data, which generalizes and improves the current state-of-the-art approaches. Bonus: estimating ITs on trial-based data is dangerous ☠️ Read it all here below 👇
New preprint from @HanganuOpatzLab! We present iSTTC, a robust method for estimating intrinsic neural timescales (ITs) from single-unit activity. It’s accurate, stable, and works even when data is sparse. doi.org/10.1101/2025.08.01.6…

Our new study is out! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… We (@CarlenLab) mapped the mouse PFC using single-unit activity! We recorded ~23,000 neurons across cortical/subcortical regions and profiled spont. firing patterns to reveal what separates the PFC from other brain regions. 1/n

Just posted! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…. How do #neurons wire up during #development at the right time in the right place? We looked at glutamatergic excitatory synapses in the hippocampus in vivo and found an unexpected role for NMDA receptors in a very early ‘critical window’🧵

If you've ever worked with spiking networks and their finicky parameter ranges, you'll love the change of perspective here below. Also, some beautiful non-trivial biological insights from organoids ephys!
My #AI4Neuro magnum opus: Discovery of spiking network model parameters constrained by neural recordings, using simulation-based inference & generative “AI”. (aka the answer to “how the f did you end up in Tübingen?”) Here's what we have in store: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
