Rio's Road to 280 overall points (thread)
since in a recent interview he mentioned wanting to reach 100 points in the short, 180 in the free, and 280 overall!
I hope talking about it made him feel better. It's not easy dealing with all these emotions at once, but step by step, he will make it without letting them crush him
“It’s truly pathetic that I couldn’t pull it off when it mattered. I’m weak. I was only aiming for first place. Finishing second doesn’t make me happy at all.” Rio Nakata finished second at the Skate Canada

Rio NAKATA 🇯🇵 JPN | 156.61 / 249.25
On the toe loop mistakes
Nakata: Honestly, I don't know. I hadn't made a single mistake in practice. If the second one popped, honestly, that can't be helped, but I thought I'd definitely land the third one, so I'm frustrated. I thought once I landed the Salchow I could do everything from there, so making a mistake like this on the toe loop is quite surprising.
On finishing second
Nakata: Honestly, I was only aiming for first at this competition, so I'm honestly not happy even with second. I have to get a higher placement at NHK Trophy or I can't go to the Final, so it's frustrating. I think it's really either win at NHK or there's no Final.
On the pressure
Nakata: I was more nervous than yesterday, and it had been quite a while since I felt this kind of pressure, so I was anxious. It was hard. In terms of nerves, it felt similar to Junior Worlds, with the pressure that I had to win here. Honestly, score-wise, this was a competition I definitely could have won, so I'm really frustrated.
On his senior debut
Nakata: I really wanted to finish with a win. Otherwise it doesn't lead to the Final. Even though it's my debut, in my own mind I had gotten myself ready to compete as a senior. I'm frustrated. In both of my senior international competitions, I skated last, and there was the difficulty of skating last. Everyone is really good, so even if I don't want to be aware of the other skaters, I end up being aware of them, and I think that's something I need to change.

rio did well! although there were two mistakes that surely made him a bit sad and dissatisfied, winning a silver medal at the first gp assignment is an excellent result! on to the next one! <33
