The degree of raging, brazen Islamophobia in the Michigan Senate campaign outstrips any anti-Semitism there by orders of magnitude. People can try to both-sides this—and, in particular, they may try to pretend otherwise by magnifying the anti-Semitism they see in the guise of opposing it—but the evidence is clear, and deeply disturbing.

66 years ago, in 1960, John F. Kennedy faced the exact same kind of vile religious bigotry that Abdul El-Sayed is up against today in 2026. As a Muslim representing Michigan, El-Sayed is an absolutely fabulous candidate — yet history is repeating itself. Looking ahead another 66 years to 2060, you have to wonder: which religious group will be the du jour target for vilification then?
Hate, racism, and bigotry have always been America's original sin. If we are to progress as a nation, it is imperative that white supremacy — and the Christian nationalism that fuels it — be eradicated by emotional intelligence and a higher moral consciousness.

What a day it has been! ❤️🙏🏾 This morning started with heartbreak, frustration, and uncertainty, but it’s ending with a reminder that there are still so many wonderful people in this world. I want to give a very special thank you to Sam of Auto Glass Mobile. With it being the weekend and most places closed, finding a replacement window wasn’t easy. But Sam went above and beyond! He located a driver’s side window all the way in New Orleans, drove there to pick it up, came back, and installed it for me. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a replacement for the back window, but he took the time to securely cover it with cardboard so I could make the drive home and have it repaired there. I also want to give a heartfelt thank you to Steven of Baton Rouge, who reached out after hearing what happened, came to see me , and while I was at the book festival, started making calls to find someone who could help. He’s the one who connected me with Sam. Two people who didn’t have to go out of their way for me, but chose to anyway. That means more than words can express.
To each and every one of you who sent encouraging messages, offered prayers, made donations, or simply checked on me today, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART! ❤️ What started as one of the most discouraging mornings I’ve had in a long time turned into a beautiful reminder of the kindness and compassion I try to spread through my own work every day. Two lawnmowers may have been stolen, and my van may have been damaged, but today I gained something far more valuable: another reminder that good people still exist and kindness always finds a way to shine through. I’ll drive part of the way home tonight, stop to rest, and finish the journey tomorrow. I’m tired, but my heart is full of gratitude. Around 120 representatives of the clergy have been killed by the Russians. On purpose, not accidentally, in deliberate attacks on these people, on our churches, and on other religious institutions.
Around 800 religious sites were destroyed or damaged. Some of them were one thousand years old, subjected to massive drone and missile attacks – both cruise and ballistic. It’s awful and crazy. And this is not about money. This is about our heritage, history, art, and architecture. You can’t just renovate them. It is very painful for all of us, and of course for our clergy in the first place.

Big Doug had ONE dream this Halloween. He wanted to be a BLUE TURTLE. 🐢💙
And for about five minutes, he WAS a blue turtle.
Unfortunately, nobody (mom) consulted Doug’s girth before purchasing said costume. 🤣
Apparently, turtle costumes are not designed to accommodate a gentleman of Doug’s… studly proportions. 😂
So after a brief wardrobe malfunction and a discussion about body positivity, Doug reluctantly agreed to Plan B.

Because when you’re built like a Costco-sized bratwurst, sometimes you just have to embrace your destiny. 🤣

How do you rescue an elephant calf from a septic tank? That's the conundrum our teams faced in Tsavo recently.
Keepers raced to the scene alongside the SWT/KWS Tsavo Mobile Vet Unit. Together, they devised a plan to save the trapped calf: fill the tank with water, float her to the surface, and then pull her safely onto solid ground.
It was the moment her mother had been waiting for. The herd had remained nearby throughout the ordeal, visibly distressed but clearly not ready to give up hope. The reunion at the end speaks for itself – turn up the sound to hear the trumpets of joy.
