Since its première, in 2022, “Slow Horses”—Apple TV’s fast-paced espionage drama about a division of MI5 where the screwups and sluggards end up—has become “a treasure to those in the know, and a nonentity to outsiders,” Inkoo Kang writes. The show, starring Gary Oldman and Jack Lowden, boasts nearly two dozen Emmy nominations, and a few wins, but has never reached the breakout status of “Ted Lasso” or “Severance.” Read why Kang thinks the underrated program is the best on Apple TV:newyorkermag.visitlink.me/Eo…

Welp… I said it…
I’m also now worrying about the social reckoning since there seems to have been a total review blackout, zero festival premieres, and it comes out the following Friday - feel like the town is about to take a one-two punch for adult dramas and I am sad about that…

Mike and Pam have been DIPPED. Ellison is not preserving Warner Bros. as a legacy management fiefdom. He may preserve Warner as a brand/maison, but he does not appear interested in preserving the people currently running it. Second, Digger now looks even more like the final

Tom Cruise’s DIGGER is now expected to lose $100M for Warner Bros. in their worst non-pandemic year this century. The final nail in the coffin is the 40% Rotten Tomatoes score, Iñárritu’s lowest ever. It may not reach the $15M debut we projected days ago.

Absolutely. I always tell me clients, there are only two things you can control: the quantity and quality of your writing.
As a screenwriter, you cannot control who buys what ... who green lights what ... who says "yes" ... who says "no" ... who calls you back ... who ghosts you. The only thing you can control is this: Your writing. Pen. Paper. Fingers. Keyboard. They can't take that away from you.

Some collaborations change the trajectory of your entire career. Developing Leo Sardarian’s BlackList script, NICHOLAS, was one of them. We recount our (still unfinished) adventures to turn the origin of Santa Claus into a movie on @chrishillwrites’ BLACKLISTED podcast!

In this podcast, screenwriter Ian Shorr confirms naming of Paramount Primal. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…
HOT RUMOR: I hear that Paramount's new genre label that J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules are building out is going to be called... PARAMOUNT PRIMAL. I had ChatGPT make a quick mockup of the main Paramount logo, taking inspiration from THE HILLS HAVE EYES. This is not real...

Hot Take — you get better reads on paper scripts. 1. Scrolling on an iPad is a passive action which leads to passive reading. 2. Feeling where you are in a script based on the pages immerses your reader in the movie. 3. Reading on paper separates you from your phone/work.

Hard to see this as a happy ending even it's framed that way. Seems pretty grim to me but I do hope he's happier now. It all comes down to supply and demand. Too many writers, not enough jobs

There are like 9 different losers at this coffee shop with their Apple laptops open, working on their dumb little scripts. I, however, am cool and working on a good one.
