Repost so everyone stays informed: DO NOT email them DO NOT sign up DO NOT give them money for audio books DO NOT sign up for monetisation of works DO NOT download This seems to be a huge data scrape of deleted & available works uploaded to Ao3 only. Just DON'T INTERACT!!

can't find the tweet now but guys pls don't contact those ao3.life guys with the email of your ao3 account. they are not affiliated with ao3 so they have no businees knowing what email is even attached to your accounts. it makes no sense

this!!!!!! pls pls pls don't be emailing these people for removal. wait for otw/ao3 and their team to sort it out first. stay safe!!

please DO NOT give these people the e-mail associated with your ao3 accounts. since this is monetized and directly referencing them, it’s more likely that ao3 and their legal team themselves can work on a takedown request, or at least provide instructions on how to do it safely. DO NOT DOXX YOURSELF TO AN AI SLOP SITE.

In light of recent ao3 related events, I have stumbled upon a website that I think authors need to be made aware of.  The website ao3 [DOT] life has been scraping and downloading fics published to ao3 for who knows how long. 🧵

1/ Gonna throw my hat in the ring here because it's late and just like. Fuck it. I am a fic author. I post my fics on the internet fully aware that they will very likely be shared elsewhere other than where I post them because that's how the internet works. I write because

Happy to report that over on t*mblr and b*uesky people are exceedingly normal about all this btw 99.9% reasonable, nuanced takes that cover both “hey let’s not report fanfics to google for copyright issues bc that gets ugly quick” AND “hey let’s be respectful of writers’ wishes”

why does all fanfiction discourse always get reduced to stupid, unnuanced either-or arguments?? general writing advice is okay; targetted unsolicited criticism is NOT. sharing epubs is okay; reposting fics is NOT. *some* writers not wanting their work included in archive drives

Yeah I actually do think people should have taken down fics if they know the author said no. (No is a no, and that should have been respected) But I also disagree that people did anything morally or ethically wrong when they originally shared fics thru drives with other people.

this current fic discourse is so redundant in my eyes. as a writer, we know our work has 100% chance of being archived as soon as it's published. and as a reader, you should respect the author enough to take it down when they ask you to. seems like common sense but apparently not
