The Quietus has been such a big part of the lives of so many culture writers in the last 15 years - and I was there at the beginning! John and Luke and the gang have made something so special and they need you to help it continue. You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone...

The story is that Sinead O'Connor ripped up a photo of the pope on SNL and killed her career. But she doesn't see it that way. In fact, the opposite feels true. I profiled Sinead: nytimes.com/2021/05/18/arts/…

Love this breakdown of Jon Batiste's 'WE ALL' on @SongExploder. Perfect for that Friday feeling. How can you *not* feel inspired after that?

Great writing tip from the sage of The Simpsons, @JJSwartzwelder, one of the most revered comedy writers of all time.

I think I may have worn out this extended Dilla cut, which I've had on loop for a month. Pure sunshine – like the audio equivalent of vitamin D. By my count, it's getting about 15k plays a day... so I can't be alone. youtu.be/LrC9IGf1Qm0
This is such a great scene. Mostly one shot. Not a word said in over three minutes. About as accurate a portrayal of anxiety as you'll ever see on screen. [María Onetto in The Headless Woman, directed by Lucrecia Martel] youtube.com/watch?v=rbli3FJB…
I love New York. Love reading about it; love watching movies set there (especially in the '70s & '80s). Rivka Galchen's writing on the city's most unloved area – with all its evocative descriptions – made me feel like I was visiting while stuck at home cutt.ly/XkSnXGr
I've been bingeing the @Criterion Collection's 'Closet Picks' series on YouTube. These shorts clips are such a good advertisement for film. What better movie recommendations can you get than from great directors? youtube.com/watch?v=R7HLpe65…
It's a good feeling to see Fontaines D.C. perform on The Tonight Show... from my favourite local pub, @AuldShill. Also: I miss good pints of Guinness in intimate spaces. Life ain't always empty... youtu.be/BZDuniNpZsQ
My resolution for 2021 is to see more all-time great films. This list has aggregated every greatest-movie ballot and gets updated every year. I've only seen 32% of them (according to @letterboxd), so lots to get stuck into... 🤗theyshootpictures.com/gf1000…

Pixar’s in-house philosophy: Be wrong as fast as you can. Mistakes are an inevitable part of the creative process, so get right down to it and start making them. Even great ideas are wrecked on the road to fruition and have to be painstakingly reconstructed. h/t: @HugoLindgren

Executives at social media companies have enabled conspiracy theories and hate for years -- making billions of dollars -- only taking piecemeal and sometimes bullshit steps to confront any of it.
They should probably take a look in the mirror this morning.

After early Dec flight, Isolation and negative COVID test I got to see my beloved parents. It’s been almost a year. Dementia’s stealing my mother but she knew me “You’re here at last!!! I’ve been looking for you everywhere! That feels better”. It sure does.
Happy Christmas. ❤️⭐️
From the weekend... I don't normally get personal in articles, but this is like my PSA about the difficulties (and nuance) of deciding whether to go home for Christmas or not.
