Neuroimaging research in psychology has led to so many false positive, non replicable findings due to questionable research practices & publication bias that Science Advances now publishes null findings to clean up the literature (this is from 2022).

📣Our 🆕 paper Causal Inference is Not Just a Statistics Problem is out! @malco_barrett, @travisgerke, and I show that you can have 4 data sets with identical summary stats & visuals but very different data generating mechanisms-statistics alone can't tell you what to adjust for!

So happy to be part of this paper! I learned a lot!
The REACT method is a very practical and useful method for hypothesis testing and can be a nice kickoff to talk about "Stats beyond p-values" to graduate students in many interdisciplinary areas!
Thanks, and Congrats @rizbicki
[Rethinking Hypothesis Tests] I usually only advertise my papers after they are accepted for publication.
But I like this paper (with @kuben45 @FernandoColug @rflassance @altayals @rbstern) so much that I'll do it now.

About 11 years ago, our -80 freezer kept getting left open & defrosting everyone's samples. I repeatedly reminded folks to be more careful but it kept happening. Finally I said, next time I'd go to the security cam in the freezer room & whoever keeps doing it was in trouble. 1/n

New #depression biomarker study in Molecular Psychiatry.
- Biomarker differentiated 49 depressed vs 59 healthy subjects (p=0.02)
- In n=19, same biomarker differentiated people who responded to antidepressant vs not (p=0.05).
Interesting work; here some caveats. 🧵

New large-scale, multimodal analysis on brain biomarker differences between depressed patients & controls; classification accuracy ~0.55.
"Even under near-ideal conditions for maximum biological differences, deviations are remarkably small."

Great thread. The dominance of Likert-type outcome measures means that most psychologists don't actually know what a non-arbitrary measure looks like. So here's a thread on how we can make our measures less arbitrary: 1/n

Authors argue that if we test specific a priori hypotheses, we may miss obvious insights in the data. They showcase this with a cute experiment. Bears on the testing vs discovery discussion I've been reading up on for my psych inquiry piece.
