Apparently you can sponsor me now, through GitHub?! Ok, I'm still trying to figure this out... But yeah, if you have a few dollars and appreciate what I do (for free), feel free to check it out. github.com/fpucore

Never thought I'd ever be compiling my own version of such a boring piece of software as a PDF viewer, but here we are! πŸ₯Έ I took xpdf, updated some redundant, modernized others, and gave it a pure black theme. It now has a pristine compile environment. This is xpdf26.

H Navigator now includes a custom compiled, updated version of the Cloaq tool included by default. This is a massive boon for user privacy. And it marks the release of v6.0.0 of H Navigator. Will upload it today.

Some of you may (or may not) remember the original browser extension called ClearURLs. It disappeared overnight when Google dropped support for Manifest V2. It was a browser extension I loved and always used. I've been sitting around and waiting for a V3 compatible update but it never came. Tired of waiting, and with no signs the developer was even interested in updating it, I took on the project myself. The result is a substantial rewrite, but one that was not only necessary but absolutely worth it. The new version ClearURLs2 is completely Manifest V3 compatible, more secure, as it no longer connects to external servers for rule updates, instead rules are handled locally. Overnight, the extension was accepted and added to the Chrome Web Store. chromewebstore.google.com/de…

Halloween-themed GitHub contributions matrix actually looks pretty wicked cool!

US-based VPN servers are the absolute worst. Do not use US-based servers.

If for some odd reason you installed Openbox 3.8.1 that I pushed a few days ago, then update to 3.8.2 immediately. 3.8.1 is fundamentally broken, and it's prone to session crash. I just pushed 3.8.2 which fixes it. More improvements in the coming weeks. github.com/fpucore/openbox

GNU Operating System / H-Linux really is gorgeous. And I'm sorry to say, neither MS Windows or macOS will ever be able to look and perform this good. 😎

Quad9 recognize the French just suck. πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ
A privacy-first DNS resolver just chose to leave an entire country rather than lie to its users. Quad9 is shutting off its free DNS service in France on November 24, after a French court ordered it to block domains that BeIN Sports claimed were facilitating sports piracy. Quad9 refused. "We categorically refuse to alter or lie to you about the DNS responses you receive in a way that opposes your expectations." The court had actually reduced the fine to just €1,000 per day. Quad9 still walked away. Because the real problem was not the fine. It was the precedent. Complying would mean either applying French copyright law to Quad9's global DNS infrastructure, or using geo-blocking methods that Quad9 considers technically unreliable and ethically compromised. Either way, the integrity of the service breaks. This is what it looks like when a privacy tool takes its mission seriously. Most services would have quietly blocked the domains and moved on. Quad9 chose to exit instead πŸ‘

If your Linux/BSD distributor hasn't yet shipped the patched PHP packages then you need to change your distribution. PHP devs were swift to get this patched and shipped so quickly. There is ZERO excuse and no room for tolerance for distributors to be lagging on this.

To accompany the TrueCrypt revival, I wrote a blog post where I attempt to address the questions people will inevitably ask about rights, licensing and trademark. Please read. I do my best to address important matters in a respectful, dignified manner. chrisjonesunixmen.hashnode.d…

All credit to @ThePHPF and all the volunteer developers around the world who've been able to patch such a critical PHP vulnerability so quickly. I understand it was actually a complex patch to implement. But the way y'all handled this and communicated it has been awesome!
