We just lost the voice of Optimus Prime today 😔 Peter Cullen, the beloved voice actor who gave Optimus Prime his unmistakable voice across more than four decades of Transformers, has passed away at 85. Cullen first became Optimus Prime in the original 1980s animated series and returned decades later for the live-action Transformers films, Transformers: Prime, Bumblebee, Rise of the Beasts, and numerous games and animated projects. His performance became so closely connected to the Autobot leader that generations of fans simply knew Optimus by Cullen’s voice. His remarkable career also included: • Optimus Prime — Transformers • Eeyore — Winnie the Pooh • Monterey Jack — Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers • The Predator — Predator • KARR — Knight Rider • Thaedus — Invincible • Venger — Dungeons & Dragons • Narrator / Commander Hawkins — Voltron In 2023, Cullen received a Lifetime Achievement honor from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, recognizing a career that had already become part of animation and pop-culture history. His family asked fans to honor his legacy through compassion, integrity and loyalty, and to remember the principle that helped inspire Optimus Prime himself: “be strong enough to be gentle.” Rest in peace, Peter Cullen. The voice of Optimus Prime may be gone, but the leader he helped create will inspire generations forever. 🕊️
