🚨BREAKING: The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) said in a yet-to-be-published proposed rule Friday that it’s drawing up plans to radically crack down on mail voting by sending ballots only to voters who are registered with the federal government. democracydocket.com/news-ale…

Lisker also is the treasurer of Grow the Majority, one of the joint fundraising committees for the CFL, the House Republican super PAC.

Pretty compelling evidence that Republicans were indeed behind secretive attempts to nominate a Democratic candidate who made antisemitic comments -->
Wow.
Justice Alito’s son is “quietly” advising the Treasury Department on legal matters - like how to approach cases that could be decided by the Supreme Court (that is, by his dad).
Philip Alito was hired early - as a loyalist - before they even had a job description for him.
Samuel Alito’s son has been working as an attorney with the Treasury’s office of the general counsel for months even as the Supreme Court takes up cases involving the department.

Snyder: Saying “history is over” is an authoritarian idea. If history is over, people have no agency.
But democracy is about people acting, caring, and being unpredictable. If nothing you think matters, it is not democracy. 4X

Snyder: The essence of MAGA is losing and pretending to win. Trump is a failed businessman whose political career depends on persuading people he is successful.
When he lost in 2020, he tried to convince people he had somehow won. 1/

It’s important to note that the lion’s share of the GOP’s goals revolve around removing/repealing legislation, rather than creating it.
Viewed from that perspective, the courts are the perfect vehicle for “legislating,” by a party that is unable to maintain popular support.

And while they use the Senate as a means to attack opposition to their agenda, they use the federal bench and dark money networks as their new, replacement legislative branch.
It is a way to maintain power, despite being voted out of power. In a sense, it is a judicial coup.

SCOTUS used the shadow docket to place a stay on the AL gerrymandering case, ensuring the 2022 midterms would be held under illegal district maps.
Later decisions showed that GA, LA, & 1–2 other states may have also been wrongly decided.
Giving Republicans control of the House.

Remember: When John Roberts gutted that part of the Voting Rights Act, he never said that these actions are legal or constitutional.
He simply said that we’ve moved past all of that stuff now, and we don’t have to worry about it happening anymore.
Then five GOP states did it.

Oh, and Georgia & Louisiana also.
How many House seats would Republicans even have if not for unconstitutional redistricting?
Federal courts ruled earlier this year that AL, GA, and LA each had to draw an additional “majority-minority” House district to satisfy federal law.
In unsigned, unexplained orders, #SCOTUS *blocked* those rulings — resulting in three R seats that would likely have been D seats.
