Recently, I started working with a martial arts dojang teaching a traditional, niche style. Very positive feedback from its students. Also very legit. They periodically train armed forces personnel in their country. The issue? Students struggle to find relevant study material to practice on their own because the martial art is so niche, and the dojang can not add more training days to its schedule. This has made many students feel the martial art is too difficult, so they leave. The dojang wanted a "library" of teachings so students could easily find what they need to practice on their own and improve. I reviewed their weekly routine and studied the challenges in depth, noticing a few more wrinkles to iron out. I proposed a mobile app that would: - house a library of all the martial arts techniques, - record the history of the art, - feature a gamified quiz to keep students fresh on topics, - provide language translations so new students can quickly pick up the language of the art - provide a better way for the Sabeomnims (Instructors) to manage dojang activities. This will ensure that the dojang can be managed on the go, and students can access what they need, how they need it, very quickly. I am designing and building it in React Native.
