What if a controlled substance waste review could begin with evidence instead of reconstruction? That question resonated throughout yesterday’s IHFDA sessions. Pharmacy and diversion teams need to know what happened at the point of waste, while clinicians need a process that fits the work they’re already doing. At the Codonics booth, we’re demonstrating how the Safe Waste System™ (SWS) identifies the syringe, measures liquid controlled substance waste, draws it into a non-retrievable container, and creates a waste-event record with data for pharmacy review and reconciliation. The takeaway: technology changes quickly. Hospital infrastructure doesn’t. Pharmacy needs a seat at the table early. That made the conversations happening throughout MAST especially relevant as attendees explored how medication safety technology can connect across the perioperative workflow—𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲-𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻/𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. 🎉 Yesterday, the Codonics team stepped away from our desks for an employee lunch featuring Cleveland’s @Offgridfoodtrk —and to recognize nine colleagues celebrating service milestones ranging from 𝟲 𝘁𝗼 𝟮𝟵 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 with Codonics. With an average of more than 𝟭𝟳 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 among this group, the numbers tell a pretty remarkable story. Longevity like that says a lot about a workplace.
