The tough job market for jr. devs is very real. My son graduated this year with a Computer Science degree and has yet to land a job. Hard to even secure interviews.
He's a native born US Citizen, able to get a security clearance, very thoughtful, careful and precise.
If anyone has an open position, hit me up. He'll do a great job, I guarantee it.

262 days.
Itβs been 262 days since you were airlifted to BC Childrenβs Hospital.
262 days since we were told, βWe did everything we could, but we donβt think sheβs going to make it through the night.β
Since then, Iβve watched you fight for every single one of those days.
251 days ago, you opened your eye, moved it, and shifted your leg only to be rushed back for emergency surgery that morning when hydrocephalus set in.
238 days ago, you were extubated and breathed on your own for the first time.
230 days ago, you felt the sun on your face again.
224 days ago, the cranioplasty we had planned turned into yet another emergency when an infection was discovered.
214 days ago, your EVD was finally removed.
213 days ago, you sat on the edge of the bed with a little help, and I wrapped my arms around you for the first time since the morning I left for work before any of this began.
191 days ago, the NG tube came out, and I saw your beautiful face completely clear of tubes and tape.
179 days ago, your prosthetic skull was placed. Your fifth surgery, and the one that finally stuck. After that, things slowly began to feel possible again.
145 days ago, you smiled for the first time (intentionally) while we played thumb war.
140 days ago, I wheeled you off hospital grounds for the very first time.
61 days ago, I heard your voice again.
40 days ago, we celebrated your 13th birthday at the Foo Fighters.
And today, today youβre being released.
There was never a day I stopped believing we would get here. The road ahead is still long, but this is a milestone no one thought we would reach. Maya, you are the bravest person I know. You are an inspiration to so many people. Giving up was never an option for me, and it clearly never was for you either. You refused to accept the words we heard 262 days ago when you came out of the OR. Look at you, my girl. You blew every expectation out of the water.
Thank you to the incredible nurses, doctors, and therapists who walked every step of this with us. Thank you to everyone who supported Maya and our family we could not have done this without each and every one of you.
Now itβs time to leave these hospital walls behind and keep moving forward, Maya Bear.
I love you forever and always.

This is why people hate greedy, unethical @Microsoft. Theyβve just installed an update on the computer of every user of Mac @Office 2021 that bricks Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.
We all have perpetual licences for Office 2021 but apparently Microsoft decided it was time to try to make everyone pay them money, even though the licence was supposed to be a one-off purchase.
After some trial and error, this fix worked for me β posting here for anyone having the same problem:
1. Delete the Office apps (Word etc.) from the Applications folder
2. Download and run the Microsoft licence removal tool: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linβ¦
3. Download and install the version of Office for Mac from 6th October 2026: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/ofβ¦
4. Enter your original licence code for Office to activate it
5. In the Finder, go to Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Microsoft and delete the MAU2.0 folder
6. Open Word, then go to the Word menu, then About Microsoft Word and check that it shows your licence
7. Still in Word, go to the Help menu, and make sure that the Check for updates option isnβt there
8. Donβt update Office for Mac and it should keep working β you need to keep updates off or Microsoft will install an update that bricks Office all over again
What a waste of time.

AI productivity gains are showing up, but only in ~15% of jobs.
The three heaviest AI adopters (information, professional services, finance) went from a 2.2% productivity trend to 5.0% since 2022.
The rest of the economy: 0.9% to 1.4%.
Turns out that if everyone was paid the same, saved the same amount, made the same on their investments, and worked & lived the same amount of timeβ¦
β¦ people 65+ would have 74% of the wealth.
Surprised? Welcome to Equal Land.

Most people who call themselves "software engineer" do not have a degree in computer science or software engineering. Titles are mostly what ever you choose to self identify - and refer to "what you do" rather than formal education.

Back in the 90s, newspaper cartoon strips were getting tinier and worse. Scott Adams changed comedy forever.
His work resonated with every tech employee. He was so barbed that management tried to ban his comics. I once posted a Scott Adams comic on my office door about how Dilbert's boss made him take down a comic that made fun of that boss. My own clueless boss asked me to remove my comic - he used almost exactly the same words used in the comic.
His legacy will live on. Below is a particular favorite.

Sorry, Yglesias is right here. The US flight hours requirement for commercial airline pilots is *famously* overloaded
In 2013, it went from 250 hours (to obtain a commercial certificate) to 1500 hours in response to a crash where both pilots had over 1500 hours of flight time
This has created a bottleneck for pilots where they have to run hundreds of hours in low-paying flight roles (instructors, running skydiving flights) trying to run up those hours.
Matt Yglesias wants you to die in a plane crash, apparently. nytimes.com/2026/10/16/opiniβ¦
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Yglesias argues US 1500-hr pilot rule (vs Europe ~200) is job protection raising fares, not safety. Europe has comparable safety per IATA. He says he wants no crashes, just to end a pretextual rule. Colgan pilots exceeded 1500 hrs.

The Fedβs balance sheet has grown 693% in 20 years, while the U.S. economy grew about 2% a year. Money creation far outpacing economic growth fuels inflation. The fundamental problem isnβt βcapitalist greed.β Itβs creating money without creating wealth.

ok i think i finally figured out why alignment has gone basically nowhere after 15 years and several billion dollars. the problem is hard sure. but have you met the people in charge of it
1) the leadership does not know how computers work. ask one what happens when you type a url into a browser and watch them start sweating. dns is a spooky word. they genuinely believe the model lives in "the cloud" like a ghost haunting a castle
2) zero idea how large scale distributed systems work. never been paged at 3am. never watched one bad bgp announcement take half the internet offline. their big threat model is the ai "copying itself across the internet" like its a floppy disk virus from 1998. brother it needs 50 megawatts, a liquid cooling loop and a personal relationship with jensen. it is not escaping onto your smart fridge
3) they dont understand the stack they are supposedly protecting us from. ask about inference servers, kv cache, batching, egress, rate limits. blank stare. ask how the model will seize the power grid and you get a 45 minute answer with a hand drawn diagram and three links to their own blog
4) nobody can define an agent. ask ten of them and you get eleven definitions and a 30 page google doc. to the rest of us an agent is a while loop that calls tools and eats a 429 every thirty seconds. to them its a digital god in its larval stage. my agent cant book a dentist appointment without asking me three times if im sure
5) they started from "everyone dies" and worked backwards so every result is bad news somehow. model refuses, deceptive. model complies, sycophantic. model does well on evals, well now its scheming about the evals. i cant think of a single thing a model could do that would get them to say ok maybe we're fine

Last week at Space Camp was Asteroid Scholarship week.
Jared showed up at sβmores night. The kids were stunned. Their smiles said it all.
Days before Liv passed, he asked how she wanted to be remembered. They came up with this: pediatric cancer survivors who love space the way she did.
He generously funded it. I spent the week with those families. My heart was full and hurting at the same time. I missed her every second. @rookisaacman

π¨WOW!!!
A college student is being praised as a HERO after she saw 3 little girls drowning in Lake Washington, jumped in, and saved ALL THREE GIRLS.
The last one was UNCONSCIOUS, underwater, tangled in a rope, only her hair was still floating.
All 3 SURVIVED!!!! β€οΈ
Her name is Lillie Vehling.
She is an engineering student at UC Davis and an attacker on the women's water polo team.
She was in Seattle for a summer internship and went to Seafair for the very first time, sitting at Genesee Park waiting on the Blue Angels with a book in her hands.
Then she scanned the water.
Three girls were out past the buoy line, bobbing, screaming, going under. She is a certified lifeguard who started her own swim lesson program, so she knew exactly what she was looking at.
One of the girls was pushing the other two under just to get a breath.
That is when she went in.
She grabbed that girl first, to stop her from taking the other two down with her. Got her to shallow water. Went back for the second one.
Then she went back a third time.
By then the third girl was already gone under.
Lillie: "I just saw her black hair in the water barely floating."
The child was unconscious AND tangled in the rope of a buoy she had been clawing at to save her own life.
Lillie got an arm under her, lifted her head out of the water, and hauled her to shore.
The little girl coughed up the lake and came back.
Seattle Fire paramedics met them on the beach. One girl went to Seattle Children's Hospital in stable condition.
All three lived.
Seafair's president found her that same day. Her first question was whether Lillie was okay. Her second was whether she could give her a hug.
That night they brought her to the gala and knighted her "Lady Guardian of Lake Washington."
Admirals lined up to meet her.
And Lillie? She is chasing a career in the nuclear Navy.
Seafair's president says she hopes the next time Lillie comes back to that lake, it is in a Blue Angels cockpit.
"To save three people, I didn't think twice about myself."
GOD BLESS Lillie Vehling, and GOD BLESS the firefighter who raised her.
THIS IS THE AMERICA I KNOW!!! πΊπΈπΊπΈπΊπΈ
