A decade ago, we embarked on a conservation journey with Hima Malai Sohmat. This partnership to secure the future of India’s only wild ape has led to various community-led efforts, from conserving forests to ecological restoration. Thank you for helping support this initiative.
#WildlifeWeek In Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills, communities are helping restore the forests of Hima Malai Sohmat, home to the Western Hoolock Gibbon and other wildlife. 🌿 🌱 Fire lines protecting 22.45 hectares of regenerating forest 🌱 Nurseries raising native saplings for restoration 🌱 Nature guide training for villagers This Wildlife Week, we celebrate community-led efforts to protect wildlife habitats. #WildlifeWeek #Conservation #Biodiversity

Nature's clean-up crew at work! The Asian water monitor lizard is a large, semi-aquatic lizard that feeds on a wide range of prey, and on animal carrion. One summer evening in Kaziranga, we came across this remarkable scene of a water monitor lizard feeding on a rhino carcass!
