When you think of hazardous road conditions your mind immediately goes to snow, ice, & rain. However, wet leaves can be just as or even more slippery! I explain the reason why. #fall #driving #leaves #safety #rain

Did you notice a ring around the moon Sunday night? It’s called a 22 degree lunar halo & it’s actually a pretty common occurrence. It’s more noticed when there’s a full moon alongside high level thin clouds. The ice crystals in these clouds refract the light giving off the appearance of a ring or a halo around the moon. #halo #moon #education #weather #astronomy
Hey @glezak what do you call it when there is a cloud ring around the full moon like this?

We’ve had a very unseasonably warm fall, especially since the start of September. These unseasonably warm afternoon highs and morning lows will continue through the foreseeable future. For you fall & winter lovers, maybe this is a bit of a bummer. However, I don’t think we can complain too much about highs in the 70s! #fall #warm #kansascity #weather

Unfortunately, Halloween has a chance to be a washout. Right now, the holiday on next Saturday features the best chance for rain that we have through the foreseeable future. Right now, we’re forecasting a 40-50% chance of rain so be ready to make alternative plans! #halloween #rain #kansascity #weather

Arizona has a very rare, 3/5 (Enhanced), severe risk just north of Phoenix (including Flagstaff, Sedona, & Prescott) Wednesday through Wednesday night. Severe weather is expected again Thursday with it being more shifted southeast towards Tucson. Tornadoes could very well be possible.

What you’re seeing on radar isn’t always weather related! In today’s case, our radar was picking birds, random ground clutter, as well as isolated showers. I explain how we use different radar products to diagnose what we’re seeing. #radar #education #weather

When do we normally have our first measurable snowfall here in KC? The answer is in late November. However, if you remember, we’ve seen our first snowfall occur as early as before this date, on October 14th in 2018! ❄️ If you’re wondering, no, we do not have any chances for snow anytime soon. #snow #winter #kansascity

Are we done with the 80s, 90s & generally warm temps as we head into late October? Temps will rise to unseasonably warm levels by late this week, peaking in the upper 70s. Although we aren’t projecting 80-degree temps, you can’t rule them out all the way through next week, with unseasonable warmth possibly persisting through Halloween. However, it looks like we can safely say goodbye to the 90s! #fall #heat #halloween #kansascity

First frost and possibly freeze of the season is expected late tonight through early Saturday morning. 🥶 Bring in the those potted plants! Harvest or water those plants in the ground today!

Legit severe-level non-thunderstorm gusts going on in Southern Arizona Friday morning. 🌬️ The culprit? They're sandwiched between an arctic high bringing the coldest air the season in the Central US & warmer lower pressure in the Gulf of California. Being in Tucson almost 3 years, I don't think I've seen non-thunderstorm & non-tropical winds this strong.

Out with the summer-like humidity —> In with fall to winter-like crisp air. 🍂 Our strongest front of the season is whipping through & will lead to the chilliest temps we’ve felt so far this fall.
