Nestled at the corner of East-West Highway and Newell Street, this tiny 0.12-acre park packs a huge historical punch:
The Acorn Gazebo: The iconic 1840s acorn-shaped structure was originally built as a garden folly for Francis Preston Blair’s estate.
The Name Origin: In 1840, Blair discovered a glittering, mica-speckled natural spring right here and named his country estate "Silver Spring"—giving the entire city its name!
The Grotto & Murals: Today, you can visit the stone grotto site and colorful murals depicting local history.

Don’t wait until election day to vote, vote early! Any Montgomery County registered voter can vote in person before the 2026 Gubernatorial General Election, from Thursday, October 22 through Thursday, October 29 (including Saturday and Sunday). Montgomery County has 14 approved early voting centers. For locations, driving directions and wait-times, text the letters EV plus a zip code to 77788 or visit the Montgomery County Board of Election’s website at 777vote.org. To register and vote during early voting, go to any Montgomery County early voting center, and bring a document that proves where you live. Bring a Maryland Driver’s License, Learner’s Permit, MVA ID, change of address card, or your paycheck, bank statement, utility bill, or other government document to register and vote. Don’t forget, early voting for the 2026 Gubernatorial General Election will take place from Thursday, October 22 through Thursday, October 29, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
