#AlzChat Include PLWD in Research & Policy: Too often, decisions are made for them, not with them. Support initiatives that involve lived experience in co-designing services, research, and advocacy. It is time to shift from passive recipient to active contributor.

Some individuals write notes about what they want to share; and more importantly about how they wish to be treated by their family / friends. The diagnosis may come as a shock, or a relief. It's important to be clear about what would help induce a supportive response. #AlzChat

Hello @creativitycare, thank you ever so much for your kind words, understanding & encouragement! It's been such a pleasure contributing to #AlzChat and engaging with this wonderful community. I'm juggling different projects simultaneously, so I may not always be present for 8pm.

#AlzChat I rarely have a hesitation bringing up the topic of Alzheimers with whom I am in conversation, with friends and/or, particularly, strangers. It often is a compliment on the PURPLE, I am wearing. I always respond with the fact that PURPLE is the color of@AlzAssoc.

#AlzChat Celebrating seasonal changes can bring joy for PLWD. Spring might involve planting flowers, enjoying picnics, or savoring floral scents. Autumn could include baking apple pies & crafting with autumn leaves. It helps stimulate the senses & encourage meaningful engagement.

#AlzChat Mother’s Day or Father’s Day are special days with wonderful opportunities to honour the person in their role as a parent or carer. Sharing stories, creating photo albums of family moments, or enjoying a meal together can make these days truly meaningful.

The good thing about a pet is, it doesn’t mind if it’s heard a story 10 times before, they are quite happy to sit and listen time and time again.
