I want to believe Luca Netz might have started with pure intentions, but somewhere along the way, something changed.

In Feb 2025, Luca Netz asked a room in Paris to hold him accountable for Abstract!
A month later, Abstract’s lawyers told the SEC a token was “currently under development.”
On 6 Oct 2026: no token, no airdrop, and new terms capping what users can recover at $100.

I don't like the trend of projects shutting down pre-TGE and being seen as somewhat heroic because they didn't extract.
It's incredibly disingenuous because people burn thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of dollars farming these airdrops, I know people who are down five figs on Abstract memes or paid high four figs in StandX fees.
Not doing a TGE just for the sake of it *can* be heroic, but only if there's adequate compensation for the people who used the products in justified expectations of being rewarded

This coming from an ex employee. Kind of wild.
Some still defend Luca. Here are more of my thoughts.
1. If there was no XP system or expectation of an airdrop, then not doing one is fine. When you constantly brag about how big the airdrop is going to be, create an XP system that's supposed to contribute to your airdrop, and then not do it... not fine.
2. Abstract TGE now would be bad, sunsetting the chain makes sense... completely abandoning the community that was on the chain, not good. At least acknowledge that community and say something will happen in the future with your XP.
3. Lying to the dApp and project teams on Abstract for months about promises and signed deals... then shutting down. Not good.
There was a good way to shut down the chain, the way it was done was not it. It solidified a huge amount of lost trust.

It’s not the decision to shut down @AbstractChain that broke trust. Projects end, building is hard.
It’s how it was handled, and a pattern at @IglooInc beyond Abstract: big announcements, community commitment, then silence when things fall apart.
