BST…..GMT & ‘daylight saving’ ….. originally conceived to shift the clocks back by 80 minutes in 20-minute weekly steps on Sundays in September and vice versa in April. Started in 1916 to conserve fuel and endured ever since, despite no real benefit to lighter mornings.
